The daily barrage of evil made me hold back on a cover reveal, but maybe this is the day. Out later in 2025, this book, like 7000+ books & so many other rich projects, would not exist without the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities. These stories must be told & we must save the NEH.

The cover of Brigitte Fielder and Jonathan Senchyne’s edited collection Against a Sharp White Background: Infrastructures of African American Print. The main title (in large all caps), the subtitle, and the editors’ names all appear in black print; the main title’s letters each have an identical white background letter behind them, making some look almost three dimensional. The broader background is a bright, multi-layered, and multi-colored mix of individual letters in a variety of fonts and styles. Some letters come close to forming words (in the top background, one can almost see “bibliography”) but many more seem randomly placed, often partially on top of other letters, almost postmodern.
