what is actually happening here is that AI is discovering vulns that no human effort could apparently uncover, and so they were effectively unexploitable, and then advertising them to the world. the idea this is "defending against attackers" is ridiculous
Got me curious. Anyone can point me to relevant diamond OP for oceanography and climate?
"Thanks for the invitation, but I will have to decline. I am strongly against the idea of Gold Open Access journals, given they are prohibitive to many scholars, i.e., those unable to afford the Article Processing Charge (APC). I much prefer (and support) Diamond Open Access journals..."
NSF has funded over 80% of the world's BGC-Argo floats via GO-BGC, which ends in October 2026, so the global array will start shrinking. NSF is asking US researchers to weigh in on future ocean observing priorities: www.go-bgc.org/nsf/nsf-requ...
Tuesday, September 15, 2026 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m Eastern Register for the zoom link. I’ve heard they aren’t recording it and want to demonstrate interest via high attendance.
If you care about Earth science in the US, please sign up for the NSF GEO virtual office hour Sept 15 with GEO directorate head Joydip Kundu! NSF leadership needs to hear directly that people care and are concerned about GEO. Maxxing out their Zoom tier sends a message. www.nsf.gov/events/nsf-g...
One of Dubliners’ favourite artists is Walter Osborne (1859-1903] who trained in mainland Europe. Here’s one of his French pictures. I’d happily steal his work if no one is looking! This is Apple Gathering, Quimperlé (1883) [1]

Consider for a moment how much the 2020-2025 period differs from the 2000-2005 period. Consider how small the temperature difference was that unleashed this level of chaos we are experiencing. Now consider how chaotic 2030-2035 will be considering it will be the same number of degrees warmer…

RIP Dear François We got to know each other better recently. This makes me so sad and mad; I am at a loss for words
François Primeau, a UC Irvine professor, developed mathematical and computational ocean models that helped us understand the ocean's role in global climate. He was killed on his bike by someone driving a car. 🌊
