"What would you do if AI suddenly disappeared?" The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world! Or just live my life as I normally do because I don't outsource my cognitive abilities to autocomplete with delusions of grandeur.

Billy Madison: Insanely Idiotic Response
Alt: Billy Madison: Insanely Idiotic Response “What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

I don't think people understand what the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences actually is. It sounds super academic like some society that studies film intellectually...but it's a marketing arm and lobbying group for the major American film studios and has been since its founding.
“Nuh uh Walter’s a super genius.” He would have failed the moment Colombo strolled up in his beat up Peugeot and asked him for a pen to write notes down on Burger King napkins.
I’m just saying, Angela Lansbury would have found out Walter White in the first season. Walter White wouldn’t have lasted an entire Colombo episode.
Maybe if someone else says the thing I've been yelling for years, people will listen. This. She has openly said this. Multiple times. I don't care if you stopped spending money on the franchise, your profile having your Hogwarts House is the equivalent of a swastika.
JKR explicitly said she considers anything Potter-related, even fan-made, endorsement of her politics. And every time you engage with this franchise, you signal to the industry that there's still money in it and they should keep pumping out content from full-cast audiobooks to book box partnerships.
i'm under the impression that the spacex chunk hitting the moon is accidental which, if true, is a genuinely impressive failure in as in the context of how large space is, statistically, the moon arguably does not exist
Fun Fact: Because Magic: The Gathering cards are randomized in booster packs, Wizards of the Coast CANNOT participate in the secondary card market for out-of-print cards because, if they do, they can fall afoul of gambling laws in many states and countries.
Things that have been said to me this week, AGAIN: "Wizards of the Coast doesn't reprint the Reserved List because they're greedy and want us to keep paying too much for luxury vintage cardboard." Which...no.

I agree, but I also feel it's not right to compare unrestricted internet access in the 1990s/early 2000s to today's internet. I'm not saying NOT to and I haven't read enough on the modern internet and minors, but the internet was so different it feels like a big enough gap you can't compare them.
this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again
SCREEN Act, which would have required mandatory age-verification for sites (like this) that allow "material harmful to minors" failed to pass out of committee after thousands and thousands of people called their Senators. More work ahead!
The SCREEN Act just failed to pass in the Senate Commerce Committee! 🎉 Enormous thanks to the thousands (!!) of you who told your Senators to vote no! Your voice matters and you should feel good that you made a difference. Obviously, the fight isn't over, but this was an important victory.
Didn't know something in the 1980s? Hope your parents were rich enough to buy an encyclopedia. If not, you had to figure out a way to get your ass to the library, hope you remembered enough of how card catalogues worked (actual cards), then read a book to find out. Now @wikipedia.org exists.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
goooood morning it’s another day of weird orange sun and early breezes, so we made our loop sharing snacks with crows, and we even got yelled at by a spicy little chihuahua - so yes, absolutely: Lucy Loved That Walk
For fuck's sake BBC News, describing Abdul El-Sayed as an "insurgent" candidate isn't even subtle dog-whistling, it's just plain shouting.
How does he feel about licensing something for a graphic novel adaptation? I have it on good authority gay vampire comics sell pretty good. :V

We spewed so much shit in the atmosphere we tore a hole in the ozone layer that caused dangerous solar radiation to get through our atmosphere. Thanks to a highly concerted effort of regulation, the ozone layer has recovered significantly and is expected to be "fully healed" within 20-30 years.

I'd ask for someone to please explain orbital physics to Ms. Wu, but based on the evidence, she'd likely lose interest when she finds out it's not made of cheese.
Texas isn't a red state. It's a state held hostage by gerrymandering and voter suppression. Hell, earlier this week they announced they're shutting down half the voting centers in Tarrant County (that's Fort Worth, 2.2 million people) and kicked everyone out of the hearing who wanted to comment.
This is a sentimental essay about politics, which I know isn't the fashion, and yet the editors at @newrepublic.com let me write something personal about the Lone Star State. Link in the replies.
Happy National Oyster 🦪 Day. I don’t eat oysters here in landlocked Iowa because I value my life, but the word comes from the Greek ὄστρεον (ostreon). A couple of years ago, they found a # of oyster shells at Pompeii in the Blue shrine—oysters were used for mortar. hyperallergic.com/stunning-pal...

New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
