Great article from The Cut people admitting their struggling is a taboo on social media. We are all conditioned in the US to internalize our livelihood are our fault. Never mind the fact our lives are the result of oppressive systems across race, class, etc that moves like a well oiled machine

The Cut - "For all the diversity of experience I encountered, I found a broad consensus on the most basic rule of engagement: You can’t admit to struggle — at least not while you’re struggling. Doing so represents a failure so profound it’s almost existential"

On social media, a broad consensus is that you can’t admit to struggle — at least not while you’re struggling. Doing so represents a failure so profound it’s almost existential. How did it become mandatory to demonstrate perpetual growth and progress online?

Millions of people are outta work, job hunting is dehumanizing, the rich get richer, and the so called best country in the world is for the oligarchs. People should and do have every right in the world to post that life sucks on social media. That's real life & they shouldn't feel ashamed.

🍡MOREISH MITARASHI😋 Today is the beginning of a three-day period celebrating mitarashi dango (みたらし団子)!🎉 Actually, this happens every month from the 3rd-5th because... 3= 'MI' (み) 4= 'taraSHI' (たらし) 5= 'danGO' (だんご) Tenuous wordplay? Yes. Fun? Also, yes. #Japan

Mitarashi dango are typically skewered rice balls, grilled and served with a syrup made from soy sauce and sugar.Mitarashi dango are typically skewered rice balls, grilled and served with a syrup made from soy sauce and sugar.Mitarashi dango are typically skewered rice balls, grilled and served with a syrup made from soy sauce and sugar.Mitarashi dango are typically skewered rice balls, grilled and served with a syrup made from soy sauce and sugar.

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

August is traditionally vacation month in Spain but I am BUSY Many projects, but I’ll get there little by little We *do* have a family trip the last week of the month, so at least that will force me to stop and breathe for a little bit 😂✌️

I really wanna go to Muji to get a binder & pages with different sized pickets to organize my clippings/references. And check out a stationery shop! But I’m honestly still pretty sick and too weak to do much walking 😵‍💫😮‍💨

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

I currently work on Fox lot. I have friends in costume, chat w construction etc. Most of Hollywood is not rich. In animation + writing also, a ton of people are out of work, leaving the state. People can’t afford housing. I’m currently ok but have wondered multiple times whether I’ll have to leave.

People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...

The paulownia inspired Itotatsu (いと達さん) to create a sweet called 'sei-no-hana' (聖の花 'sacred flower'). According to Chinese legend a phoenix will only land on a paulownia tree, and only when the country is being governed by a good ruler. Its appearance is a good omen.

Itotatsu's pink and green kinton sweet, 'sei-no-hana', is inspired by a flowering paulownia tree.Woodblock print depicting a phoenix.
