One of the most annoying features of the tabloids is the way they report their own opinions as news. So "We have decided to attack Bridget Phillipson as a class-warrior" becomes "Bridget Phillipson is in the centre of a new 'class-war' row". They're partisan attack dogs,pretending to be newspapers

So it turns out the massive scandal here is that Bridget Phillipson's mum bought a council house for £9k in 1990 and then sold it *33 years* later for £99k. That's the entire story

I’m not saying the debate in the U.K. has moved to the right, but Ed Miliband is basically seen as Pol Pot for aiming for a climate target first agreed to by…I think Theresa May’s government? Definitely Johnson’s. And this chat is going on during the middle of a record-breaking heatwave

I know Calvin’s dad is already having a moment, but every terrible “outsource precious and fleeting moments with your children to tech so that you can spend more time on your work” pitch makes me think of that one strip I never really cared about as a kid, but care a lot about as an adult.

The Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin asks his dad to come play in the snow with him. His dad initially says no, because he has to work. Then, angry at himself, his Dad goes out to build a snowman with Calvin. As the Dad works into the night to make up for it, we see Calvin’s mum lifting him up to give one of the few, if only, kisses he ever gives his dad in the Calvin and Hobbes run. His dad is content. It’s a textless comic, and it’s lovely.

What very sad news about the death of Anthony Head. We made 5 series of Bleak Expectations together and every episode I rejoiced in his superb comic timing, playfulness and evil laugh, as well as his kind, easy going manner. Rest in peace Mister Gently Benevolent, loveliest of villains. #AnthonyHead

Toddler update: my husband let her taste his ice cream and she took the ice cream and ran. My husband has tried to bribe her to give it back my replacing it with a biscuit. Anyway now the toddler has an ice cream and a biscuit

Anglophone visitors to Wales often seem weirdly obsessed with "Dim Parcio". But—from an etymological point of view—parcio is honestly far less interesting than it might look. The much less promising looking Welsh word "car" (which means "car") turns out to be quite a bit more interesting... 🧵
