It is funny that as more people get duped by AI, the response more frequently seems to be to insist that the models are developing godlike intelligence and we all need to be sooo careful when the real lesson is clearly that the human psyche can get absolutely one-shotted by personalized flattery

This is actually a fucking chilling thing for a longtermerist to say. "Broadly benefit humanity" = "fuck everyone alive right now, it needs to create the future that I believe in" The only comforting thing is that he's not going to do number one, because he's a liar.

The oddest thing about the response to this essay is people who say it’s “personal”. You can disagree about some or all of it! I may well be wrong! But it’s not “personal” to analyze a film or other work of art, even negatively. Criticism is more than “Hurray!” or “Hiss!”
Data centers are a fun double whammy of being a cancer on the places they are built, in terms of basic humane living (forget enjoyable, just livable) and undoubtedly also will cause literal cancers, too.

I actually sense the long and silly reframing of 'elites' as anyone with a social conscience has been largely successful and there is little evident hypocrisy in portraying yourself as pro-battler while hobnobbing with the country's richest provided they too are sufficently racist/evil.
