Last week concluded the last of our recent visits to the four Innovation Hubs that make up our CF Lung Health Network, co-funded by the Trust and LifeArc. Swipe for a recap of the four programmes and click the link to find out more. https://ow.ly/qPMi50Zl7B4 #cysticfibrosis

These findings help explain the neutral clinical outcomes observed in the parent trial and suggest that adding further antibiotics based on sputum microbiome profiling is unlikely to improve treatment response. Thanks to all patients and the CFMATTERS consortium! #CF #Microbiome #AJRCCM #ERJ

Using 16S rRNA sequencing, qPCR and neutrophil elastase measurements, we found that standard IV antibiotics produced transient reductions in bacterial burden and airway inflammation. Adding a microbiome-directed third antibiotic provided no additional microbiological or inflammatory benefit.

Delighted to share the final version of our Short Communication in @JournalCF. We show that upper airway samples do not reliably reflect lower airway microbiota in awCF- highlighting key challenges for microbial surveillance in the modulator era. Link: tinyurl.com/y7cr34c9

Assessing the reliability of upper airway sampling for microbiological surveillance in cystic fibrosis

Sputum analysis is the standard method for microbiological surveillance in cystic fibrosis (CF). However, CFTR modulator therapy has markedly reduced …
