“He began to feel that countering anti-vaccine activism was maybe as important as the vaccines he was formulating.” Information, communication, speaking up for what has saved millions of lives is a moral obligation. Not doing so It will affect entire communities with long lasting consequences.

Lethality for this #YellowFever outbreak remains high (~40%) as already seen in Colombia. #PAHO declared the risk as high because of wide geographical spread (also to non endemic areas) and low vaccine coverage. Surveillance, Vaccination and Communication are much needed for an effective response.

🦟 #YellowFever in #Brazil 🇧🇷: "The Brazil Ministry of Health @minsaude.bsky.social has reported 115 confirmed human YF cases in 4 states until 16 June: Sao Paulo, Pará, Minas Gerais and Tocantins. In addition, 45 deaths were reported, (~40%)". #FebreAmarela open.substack.com/pub/outbreak...

Vaccine hesitancy has been reported by health officials both in Colombia and in Brazil as one of the causes for the spreading of this outbreak. Vaccination is the most efficient way to contain the virus. Thanks Prof.Hotez for putting the spotlight on YF. We need more talk on risks, prevention, etc.
