I’m here for the news. And cats.

Reminder that we published an extensive interview with a former editor at The New York Times who laid out, in detail, how the paper's pushing of anti-trans bigotry was both very intentional and directed from the very top of the organization. The NYT plays a direct and major role in trans genocide:

'A directive from above': Former NYT editor lays out how the paper pushes anti-trans bigotry

I think this is why many of us with well-scoring NIGMS grants are not getting funded. Word on the street is they ran out of funds and had to stop making awards to those they had intended to fund. So frustrating for those of us who did everything right and put all our eggs in the R35 basket.

So here is the curve... The curve for the current fiscal year is well above any previous fiscal years and is heading toward the level at the end of fiscal year 2025. This will likely result in a 20% reduction in the number of new and competitive renewal grants that could have been funded. 4/4

A line graph of the amount of funds devoted to years past year 1 for NIH grants showing that the curve for fiscal year 2026 is well above previous fiscal years and is heading toward fiscal year 2025 levels.

White House rolls out AI funding — and signals a new era for US science

Chief US science adviser calls for a shakeup in funding while handing out grants to accelerate research with AI.

It's not about trust in science or higher ed. It's about corruption, cronyism, brute force, hatred by authoritarians (stop calling them populists) for independent thought, knowledge. Derek Lowe from Science Magazine nails it. This is all BS. To say otherwise is to make excuses for these monsters.

Tomorrow the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge portions of our U.S. military with the IDF. This represents a dangerous threat to our very identity as a soviern nation. Any elected representative who votes yes is guilty of treason.

“The transparent discrimination in the proposed rule will result in the government facing multi-million-dollar lawsuits, losing, and appealing—just as it did after its illegal impoundment of federal research spending. But these lawsuits themselves are a strain on American science funding”
