Yesterday I learned the wonderful British slang “belt and braces,” meaning the use of two or more actions in order to be extra careful about something, although only one is really necessary. What are some of your favorite phrases NOT from your home country or residence?

The latest episode of the 32BJ Training Fund Building Stories podcast, our 14th, is up. I was talking with colleagues and it occurred to me that while I am sure there are podcasts that center the voices of working people, there cannot be nearly enough. And ours is one that consistently does this.

So good. Via @ihavethatonvinyl.com and the poet Chris Bridgen. "I miss my friend and, turns out, I missed Rush. I miss Joe Strummer. Miss the time when all that mattered was the spirit of radio, listening to records with friends. Having that classic on vinyl. One came back, and now has again."

The Spirit of Radio

Finally, thankfully, the CKLC DJ said Rush would play the Memorial Centre this fall, one night only, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada to support their new album Hemispheres. Get your tickets soon, he said...

"I'll tell you what I'm celebrating. I'm celebrating all the people. The human beings of my country, particularly those who have been bold enough to believe a different story, and to try their hand at telling it, to put their hands to the work of making it happen..." From @juliusgoat.bsky.social

I wrote about living in a country that is hard to celebrate, and of an alternate vision we are invited to join and inherit, in order to make a country that would be worth a sense of pride. www.the-reframe.com/patriots-of-...

God damn it, @nytimes.com. "Yarns" summons up Uncle Bert telling us "the fishing story" again, not the fact that Trump doesn't know shit about fuck, but can't ever admit it, so just makes shit up! "Stretch the truth" is cute. He's an uncurious, unable-to-learn person. Just say THAT.

Headline Reading: Trump’s Historical Yarns Often Stretch the Truth. Here's a fact check.

We fact-checked the president’s colorful — and inaccurate — accounts of American history from the Battle of Gettysburg to the Unabomber.
