This story is indeed insane. They literally *discounted his correct answers* (on questions about the Constitution) so that a Trump supporting girl who wants to go to Hillsdale College could win $25K and be televised meeting Trump. So. Gross.

This story is crazy. It would appear Trump admin officials rigged their nationally televised high school civics contest to keep a young man from a Sikh family out of the finalists. www.notus.org/national/ame...

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.

Whatever could be said about that claim when he made it in 1962, it soon became undeniable that government vaccine research, distribution, and mandates are objectively among the greatest achievements of civilization. Claiming otherwise is embarrassing, it's like saying you don't wash your hands.

"The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus." — Milton Friedman. They were driven by individual liberty and free markets. And they always will be.

Nurse practitioners are a *hugely* important resource in our communities — in many places, an NP can be residents’ only access to primary care. Trump’s new student loan rules will disrupt the nursing pipeline — and it will make getting care even more difficult.

The beautiful game. The people’s game. Throughout this World Cup, we have been reminded of a simple truth: football belongs to everyone. So does the joy and community it creates. Yesterday, I joined New Yorkers on Rikers Island to watch England take on Argentina.

Mayor Mamdani greets detainees in Rikers Island jail for a World Cup watch party. A detainee on Rikers Island is served from a buffet.

James Talarico: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE. He wasn't their intended target. But he looked like their intended target. Lorenzo was a child of God, endowed with infinite worth. His life was invaluable. His death was senseless. Our neighbor, our fellow Texan, deserves justice.

The imbalance between the rich and the poor has reached a breaking point. The first trillionaire has been minted. Yet 20 states still have a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Something is fundamentally broken here.

WHOA DHS does not say that the agent feared for his life… just the vague concern for “public safety.” So he killed him just because he did not want him in America, not because of any specific threat to agents?

What’s sad to me… is that Lindsay Graham probably thought he could outlast Trump and then reconcile his morality after that. There is no after that now. It’s a good reminder… always do what you know to be right, right NOW. And when you recognize you crossed a line, that’s ok, but come back.

Many, many years ago I worked for a certain legal news website to which Lindsey Graham subscribed. Anyway i hardcoded it to always spell his name wrong in the top corner, no matter how many times he tried to manually correct it.

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend Satan, the Prince of Lies. Though we often disagreed about matters such as the appropriate role of torture in the afterlife, I will most remember how his quick wit and affable nature made our weekly golf outings a ritual. He will be missed.

My hot take is that regarding Congress like it's analogous to some normal workplace with colleagues who are all ultimately on the same team is exactly the thing everybody is disgusted by, because politics and policy are real to them, because they are not smug cloistered fucking nitwits.

My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.

I’ll write more later, but this is the defining Lindsey Graham moment for me. Screaming into a mic to defend a Republican Supreme Court nominee against allegations of sexual assault, all in the hopes that Mister Trump would watch on TV and tweet something nice about him. That’s Graham’s legacy.

I don’t remember if Lindsey Graham or Brett Kavanaugh melted down first, but their back-to-back, angry outbursts are part of the reason Donald Trump didn’t pull the nomination after Christine Blasey Ford came forward.
