Yesterday, on a holiday where kids go door to door connecting with their community, my sweet town was terrorized by government-backed thugs. Our schools locked down. We patrolled the streets, warning vulnerable people to stay inside. Helicopters circled incessantly. ICE get out.

I like to close out my talks sometimes by trying to draw my least favorite things as quickly as possible (horse, hands, car 😒). A note arrived after one of these talks. I love it to bits. It’s going on a wall.

As someone who has lived my whole adult life in cities deemed “dangerous”—NYC, NOLA, and SF—I think a lot about how dense cities require patience, calm, and tolerance in the midst of social difference, which are of course exactly the civic virtues that the right resents being told to cultivate.
this thread (in response to colin kaepernick's "make comics with AI" venture) is just spot on. for extra context, great coverage from the beat and popverse last year: www.comicsbeat.com/colin-kaeper... www.thepopverse.com/comics-colin...
Colin Kaepernick wants to help people make comics - by eliminating the people who actually make comics, using AI
Before launching Lumi, a company that "leverages advanced AI technology" to make comics, Kaepernick was made aware of comic artists' misgivings

i just did a workshop with kids about making comics. emphasized that ANYONE can make comics. you don't have to be a "good" artist. you find a story that matches your art style and you do it and it's awesome. and a kid who NEVER PARTICIPATES got out from under a desk and PARTICIPATED and had a blast.
HARD CO-SIGN!!! Pencil, paper, done.
"A.i." doesn't empower anyone. It strips them of belief in themselves and the power of their own minds and hands and abilities and stories. EVERY KID CAN DRAW. EVERY KID CAN TELL STORIES AND MAKE COMICS. Fuck "A.i." for telling kids lies and making them less-than.
