again, if i had a calculator that gave me the wrong answer one (1) time, i would throw it out and never use it again and could probably bankrupt the company by simply telling people what happened

I am a product of this system. I loved it and, in some ways, I still do. I cherish a lot of those memories. But it’s all braided with several poisonous strains of thinking that have cast a shadow over my life and, in many ways, my whole generation. This is my attempt to reckon with that legacy.

This is the best thing I've read on churches and youth groups since @jasonkirk.fyi's excellent book. Youth groups of my childhood were a mission to shape you into a very specific type of Christian with a specific set of politics. It missed opportunity to teach you how to love others or yourself.
