Rebecca Hawkes: bitchy damsel, beefy eel, haggard sylph. NZ poet: author of Meat Lovers, king simp for poems at Sweet Mammalian. Words in Palette, Glass, Cordite, & suchlike

Today I'm saddened to hear of the loss of Jools Topp. The Topp Twins have been lifelong icons of community spirit and a better, brighter, more inclusive New Zealand. I wrote this poem a few years ago for an event honoring our queer ancestors, later published with Cordite. Photos via RNZ

every mushroom foraging guidebook: This is Woodland Pot Roast, a tasty little mushroom that adds a delightful flavour to soups and stews. Note that it is often mistaken for Satan’s Fistula, a mushroom that erases the last 9 generations of your family from God’s ledgers.

I have been traveling and today I present to you...the thing I saw in the Frankfurt airport. Is it efficient? Undeniably. Does it probably work better than the normal way? Oh certainly. Produce less of a mess? Probably? But the existence of Condiment Udders gives me a deep, aghast disquiet.

A hotdog and pretzel stand with large hanging bottles of mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise. The bottoms contain squeeze tubes to dispense the condiments.

Lil contrapuntal out with Cordite poetry journal last month, featuring Lactarius mushrooms (this one is edible!) & the horrors of fanmade Pokémon fusions (Milfing is Miltank + Koffing, on which I had to make an explanatory slideshow when I read this for our MFA program's sponsor, see attached)
