This story is fine, but the headline the Seattle Times chose implies that a new bus lane is forcing drivers to just "find a new" route to I-5. No, the engineering project actually includes a new route to I-5. Anything to make it look like a progressive mayor is causing chaos, I guess?

The Yale slip lane is now permanently closed, with Boren handling all I-5 traffic! We had a great time meeting the SDOT crew and can't wait to see the improvements this will bring for the L8! We'll head back down later today to share some more photos after everything is fully installed.

When we built out the First Hill streetcar part of the work uncovered the original tracks still buried under Broadway. Madison runs from Elliot Bay to Lake Washington because it used to have a streetcar. Now the Rapid Ride G doesn’t quite cover it. Have to love rebuilding old transit.

Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

After a month with my living room furniture swapped I was sad to realize that I really preferred it back the way it was. And amused that the biggest factor was that when I used to regularly keep the sofa in front of the windows I didn’t have a catio for Beatrice to lure my neighbors to my windows.

The air quality is fine in Seattle this morning—but I’m definitely planning on having my rescue inhaler and mask handy this week.

Unfortunately, it is likely that smoke from the fires in Washington and Oregon get pulled westward over the Pacific Ocean, down the coast and toward the Bay Area by Wednesday. Other parts of Northern California, like Tahoe, could get smoke as early as Tuesday.

There’s a podcast I listen to with four hour deep dives on history that are conceptually interesting—but the host’s delivery is such that I often listen to portions of it at night before bed—because it helps engage my brain enough on something other than my anxiety while still putting me to sleep.

Blue Angels air show canceled at Seafair due to wind

How to tell there wasn’t an artist or designer on the selection panel/jury. There are lots of folks using the “Air Bud” defense here since the rules didn’t specifically prohibit AI use. But it still doesn’t excuse poor execution, weak concepts, etc that become even more obvious at every review.

Confirmed at last this morning that a designer on my team (not a direct report) that lives in Spokane is safe—though they lost power for part of the day and had to help friends who needed to evacuate. Such a “perfect storm” of wind, fire, drought and history of development not minding any of it.

I supply a local coffee shop with whistle kits. They don’t distribute as many as they did at the peak of the surges this winter, but I still need to drop off 50-100 a week to keep them stocked. People give a shit about this in ways they might not have if Minneapolis hadn’t shown us we could.

All activism is doing long-term work. It's also very clear that what happened in Minnesota changed the dialogue on ICE and shifted how people view it.
