The rather bonkers Babington monument of c1538 at St Winifred's, Kingston on Soar. It's richly covered in carving including over a hundred little people cavorting with barrels. This is a pun or rebus on the family name as a tun/ton is another name for a barrel. #MonumentsMonday
A Viking 10th century silver thistle brooch found in 1901 at Flusco near Penrith in Cumbria. It is a type that probably originated in Ireland but was adopted by the Vikings. Seen in the British Museum last week. #FindsFriday

A #Roman shield found in Dura-Europos (Syria), where it was lost during a siege in the C3rd AD. The only rectangular shield to survive from the Roman world, it is a wonderful find, & gives a great insight into how elaborately decorated these items were #Archaeology #AncientBlueSky
