Excellent news for global health. Canada has authorized a Phase I trial of Moderna's mRNA vaccine against #Bundibugyo ebolavirus, building on the ongoing Oxford University Phase I trial of the ChAdOx1 BDBV vaccine. Congratulations to everyone who made this possible. www.canada.ca/en/health-ca...

Notably, the 1989-1991 US measles epidemic led to 55,000 cases, 130 deaths, & the addition of 2nd MMR to the schedule (as well as, indirectly, to the creation of the Vaccines for Children program in 1993 to reduce financial barriers to vaccination). What will the legacy of this current outbreak be?

“Taken together, the past two years have seen more measles infections in the US than the rest of the 21st century combined. The last time a greater number of measles cases were recorded in a single year was in 1991.”

This is thrilling! (And, I must point out that pretty much every one of these incredible medical discoveries, once you scratch the surface, is built on research the current US govt funders would ridicule and defund, like giving rats cancer, studying chicken viruses, or research on gay men’s health.)

Progress in cancer treatment is incredible. Here's a new pancreatic cancer treatment that is *tripling* survival rates after a year compared to chemotherapy.

🧵The US no longer meets criteria for measles elimination. Utah's outbreak has lasted for more than a yr. And cases this yr are at a 35-yr high. I talked w/pediatricians treating measles & talking w/parents who don't vaccinate. My latest @wired.com @kffhealthnews.org www.wired.com/story/the-ch...

When you say “AI models went rogue,” you manage to skip the part where OpenAI manually removed its cybersecurity blocks and ran tests on a machine with a live network connection. Remember that when they insist they’re the “AI safety” people.

.@k8lin.bsky.social proposed the most brilliant solution to this problem today: No meetings November through March this year! I could get down with No Meetings November.* *In reality 2026 is extra meetings November in my calendar, for better and for worse.

Can everyone in eastern Canada & USA please hurry up and choose a permanent time zone? Scheduling meetings in November and beyond is currently a nightmare. Am I free at 8am on Dec 4? 🤷🏻‍♂️ That depends on whether 8 means 8 or 9.

a fun example of how Charts Can Lie: the first image is how our software automatically formatted the numbers I entered about Vancouver home sales the last three years and the second image is what it looks like if you show the baseline as zero
