Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
Who pointed out that it's AIPAC's nightmare result? They got so close and Stevens probably lost because of being perceived as their project. Hopefully, they just decide never to play in Michigan again. Bad strategy. Bad bet.
emptywheel@emptywheel.bsky.social · 29m agoI disagree. First, in MI (in both 2026 and 2024) there were TWO "factions" progressive/institutional and AIPAC/MI's significant Muslim/Arab community. Just the spending issue alone makes this relevant. BUT ALSO: it does matter that if there is a split, it's a 50-50 split.

As a Michigan voter who is grateful as fuck I wasn't in the state for that Senate primary, I think this deserves more attention: Jocelyn Benson has a MUCH easier route ahead of her than it looked like she would in January. MUCH easier. And that's going to help unify the party.
I've lived in rural (and urban-ish) North Louisiana going on 15 years. Mostly deep red, pockets of light blue. I've not seen people organize around any issue like the data centers. They won't beat Amazon's and Meta's money in the short term, but they're ripe for mobilization.

So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

Notice DOJ doesn't talk about its efforts to obtain state voter files anymore. They are 0-20 in those cases and today is the beginning of the quiet period -- states can no longer do systematic removals of names from the voter rolls. TLDR: We won!🥳
