@pantosplaining.bsky.social Any chance you might like to have a go at this one? There's a 40 Minutes BBC doco about the previous year's show (hence "TV's Top Class Summer Show!") that also had the Jays in it - it's not online but can be provided if wished.

TIL about Zoom, an American PBS series that started in 1972 and surely *has* to have been a more-than-minor influence on Why Don't You? which came along a year later. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLli...

@scarredforlife.bsky.social My parents bought this album in the late 70s, and I have no idea why, they've never had any interest in disco funk. I was always a bit scared of it because of the cover - that robot's face unsettled me (still does, a bit) and the final track is titled Robot Death.
@scarredforlife.bsky.social Really not sure what to think of this genuine local cinema ad. The aesthetic is purest SFL.
@heritage.bsky.social Hate to have to tell you this, but having just read your Guardian article about Blue Peter - it was *never* always live. Even in its imperial 70s-80s phase it was pre-recorded more often than you'd think. And the topper? The Lulu the elephant edition was a pre-record...
@scarredforlife.bsky.social Can you help identify an Usborne or St Michael-type book about UFOs from the late 70s? Hardback, think it had a purplish cover, and the bit that scarred me was an illustration near the middle. It was of people in an American Midwest farmhouse in the middle of the night...
This is the sort of out-of-the-box thinking this country needs.
Currently reading a fascinating biography of the polar explorer Roald Amundsen. Apparently he was an early advocate of Asian food in Norway, and...
My wife took her primary class to a local church so the vicar could explain Advent. He got the kids to help him light candles marked "faith", "hope" and "charity". Then he said - and this is verbatim - "So who's going to help me light my love candle?"
Couple of textbook sweet old pensioners just got on the train. Him: "Where are you going to sit, Gloria?" Her: "I don't fuckin' know"
Today is the 9th anniversary of me discovering that a chap I used to work with at ITV was responsible for creating the Family Fortunes "wrong answer" sound effect when he was at ATV back in 1980. It was done on a VCS3.
Nothing gets you into the Christmas spirit quite like one of those channels at the far end of the Freeview EPG showing seasonal music videos in a stretched aspect ratio with negligible bitrates, MPEG compression artefacts and tinny 32kbps audio.
FB Memories has reminded me of when some of my former colleagues in the LWT Staff group were reminiscing about the production of Metal Mickey. FB truncated one post about Irene Handl so perfectly, I had to preserve it for the ages.
