One thing I haven’t seen said re the tragic deaths of people swimming in waterways during the heatwave: pool availability is due to decline by 40% on 2019 by the end of the decade. Everyone should have access to safe indoor and outdoor swimming & free lessons. www.swimming.org/swimengland/...

I’ve been driving for a year as of June and a lot about it is very scary still! Yesterday I drove into central Sheffield with the 4 lane roads and got into and out of a multi storey car park unscathed for the first time and it was oh-kay.

I truly don't have a dog in this fight. I listened to the LRB podcast with her, then read the article, all with light interest, before discovering the Discourse. But the podcast does add clarification and further discussion I found useful context.

I do want to pick apart this observation in Emily Wilson's review: "we are not shown that war and killing are bad." This is an odd point to me, given that I found the entire war as presented to be a squalid, poisoned event that has brought everyone involved with it harm despite its glorification

Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

I did a huge clean out of the outbuilding which holds my bikes and bike stuff and made room for a chest freezer. I’m real excited to finally have the room to do multibuy offers on things I otherwise have no space for. Being in your 40s is great imo.
