I just finished reading this book. I can't praise it highly enough. It is worth your time, it is worth your energy, it is worth your attention, it is worth a visit to your local library or your purchase. It may even have helped inform me as an ally in some subtle ways. 100% great stuff.

Hi, new followers! Someone else did a "happy Pride, all my books are gay!" thread and now I want to do it too. First up is IGNORE ALL PREVIOUS INSTRUCTIONS, just out this May. A sapphic cis woman and a trans space pirate team up to fight genAI, book bans, and censorship. Super queer and super fun!

Cover of Ignore All Previous Instructions by Ada Hoffmann. The cover art features a big cartoon Jupiter with a little cartoon spaceship flying over it against a starry background. On the cartoon spaceship there is a tiny Jolly Roger.

Because people in this country are so accustomed to excessive punishment and surveillance, they did not detect just how many immigrants were receiving ankle monitors ("Alternatives to Detention."). The $$ means ICE has an unlimited supply. www.wyso.org/news/2026-07...

DHS summoning some Haitians to check-ins, using ankle monitors to track them

The Department of Homeland Security has notified Haitians who previously had TPS status to report to their office in Blue Ash, Ohio, for a ‘check-in."

Reformers touted the use of ankle monitors as a way to reduce jail populations. But they do not! They increase jail populations because people are penalized for breaking "rules" imposed by this surveillance. This is not a "substitute" for prison; it is prison.

HAPPY BOOK LAUNCH DAY to @sesmith.lol! Don't let the title fool you, this book is about way more than cats or even pet loss — it's about grief, the way Western culture is fucking weird about it, and how we can do better for ourselves, our friends, and our community. bookshop.org/a/118950/978...

All My Dead Cats and Other Losses: Practicing Good Grief in a Culture That Fears Mourning

"Both a grief book that doesn't read like a clinician's notes and a memoir wrapped around a bigger subject, All My Dead Cats takes grief from the taboo to the universal." — BooklistHave you suffered a...

More essential reading! "Detention is an institution of social control," @silkys13.bsky.social reminds us. And "There is so much emphasis on improving conditions when the answer is actually to release people. The best way for people to have good… health is not to be in these institutions"

In my latest, I talk with @silkys13.bsky.social about the struggle against ICE. How are the government’s tactics shifting, and how must we respond? We also discuss the tremendous victory of fighting off the warehouse model for the regime’s concentration camps, and where the fight goes from here.

It's right to be outraged. Just as it's right to be outraged when ICE guns someone down. But I also want us to remember all of the people dying due to deplorable conditions in prisons, jails, and immigration detention centers, bc they are also being murdered by the state.

Police, in cities of almost any size, should be disarmed completely. Seriously. They should have to seek judicial permission to open the gun safe only under specific circumstances and when they are engaged in specific activities. Otherwise? Completely disarmed.
