This article is poorly thought out trash. He presents the false choice of either taking the right-wing hateful position, or being silent. He doesn't look at all of the athletes and sports personalities that speak with clarity on political issues from the position of kindness shared by 80%+ of people

Today is the day the story There Will Come Soft Rain is set. An amazing and heartbreaking work of fiction for our modern age. Read it here:
We all still do it. Gladly. To advocate for our dignity. Because to get people who are not affected to advocate for us to someone has to have done that work. But we still find ourselves with the same talking about trans people instead of to them discourse.
I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.
I hate sounding like a conspiracy person but there’s a reason that this Sophie Cunningham thing is on like day 7 of discourse and how there’s absolutely very little trans staff writers driving the news coverage of it.
I get that people are trying to be inclusive, but the number of places that are like "we define women as including nonbinary people" in their women focused event descriptions makes me stabby. I don't want to be defined as a woman! That's like... one of the main things about being nonbinary!!!

I think a lot about a post that I can't find that takes aim at the genre of jokes about x, y or z soundtrack composer and how they "didn't have to go that hard" for some silly movie. The post is like "yes they did? they care about their job? they want to make good work?"
TODAY: @milesklee.bsky.social celebrates a high point of cinema, that Orson Welles frozen peas commercial. Welles has "no cause to give even a microscopic fraction of a fuck about how the finished product will turn out. He insists on integrity anyway." flaminghydra.com/a-celebratio...
automatically running signal messages through a stranger's AI is, I think, the worst pitch and idea I've ever been cold pitched in my life and that is saying a lot

Uncanny ads and partisan chatbots: AI toys with San Francisco politics
San Francisco’s political experiment with the technology has only just begun. But it’s already permeating civic discourse.

Genuinely, and I mean this with all my heart, what the fuck.
Scott Wiener is so fucking creepy!!! making an AI chatbot of your woman opponent so she says all the things your campaign wants her to say is deeply misogynistic!!! holy shit!!!

I have long wanted to write for the excellent Bay Area publishing collective COYOTE...and they let me write something that honestly no other publication would. All hail independent media!!
Early on @coyotemedia.org made a list of dream bylines we'd LOVE to have on the site and @annaleen.bsky.social was one of the first on it for me. So stoked to see this piece about ~~speculative transit~~ and big dreams for the Bay Area. www.coyotemedia.org/funding-bay-...
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

A Modest Proposal for Funding Transit Instead of AI
In the ’60s, the Bay Area almost got a high-speed train from Marin to San Jose. What could happen if we dreamed big again?

Pet peeve: people putting on events who won't share the actual details of the event unless you comment on their Instagram and then they'll DM the details. I understand that you're trying to juice your Insta engagement numbers but it sucks for your actual fans/people who want to go to your shit!!
JK Rowling funding her trans exterminationist campaigns by selling children's books to liberals 🤝 the NYT funding their trans exterminationist campaigns by selling puzzle games and recipes to liberals (and also for both, cis people will get really upset at trans people asking them not to)
In other words, NYT is increasingly becoming a gaming and recipe company, with revenue from that business helping subsidize the higher costs of their journalism (which has been weaponized in favor of trans genocide). They depend on liberals not caring enough to boycott them.
also a good time to support non-transphobic news orgs started by queer and trans people 😉
It’s a good time to support indie news in the Bay Area that won’t salivate over billionaires or throw AI slop all over articles! An annual subscription to COYOTE is 25% til Aug 8 with the code HOTDOG. www.coyotemedia.org/summer-2026-...
Some difficult news: Fred, the Oakland baby night heron that @nuala.bsky.social and friends rescued in the course of reporting our herons and housing story, passed away. You can read Nuala's obituary here: petobits.coyotemedia.org#fred0729
Thank you @coyotemedia.org & Nuala Bishari for keeping up with the plight of our heron rookery! 💘 "The kids who asked the city to make the herons the official bird should be able to grow up seeing them in the wilds of Oakland, not just on their library cards." www.coyotemedia.org/herons-or-ho...

The idea that the league, teams, coaches, and players should remain silent in the face of this absolute discriminatory bullshit encouraged by bigoted statements from a player is bananas to me. Everyone should be shouting this down. You want an welcoming and inclusive fanbase? PROVE IT.
The Indiana Fever play tomorrow in Portland and Sunday in Minnesota. There are "Support Sophie Cunningham" transphobic rallies planned for both cities. Fuck all the way off. #WNBA
It's gonna be fun when Sophie is waived because she's not actually that good at basketball and she turns that into a whole thing about being cancelled.
“the wnba is popular now so we have to change the league to accommodate people who are fundamentally opposed to everything the league is inherently about” well no we don’t actually, you’re lying, we do not have to do that
I wrote about how immigration arrests are at all-time highs, even as ICE is trying to assume a lower public profile. How are they doing this? Look to your local police.
ICE’s Secret Weapon Is in Your Community
While attempting to maintain a relatively lower profile, ICE is managing to arrest record numbers of people. Here’s how it’s doing that.
