Who is everyone following for election coverage tonight since @taniel.bsky.social isn’t doing a live update?
Listening to an Oscar draft podcast and I rewound the bit where everyone talked about how Andrew Garfield should have won an Oscar for Tick Tick Boom to listen to it again because of how deeply I believe that Andrew Garfield should have won an Oscar for Tick Tick Boom.
15. The Sea-Glass Shore by Julie Salmon Kelleher is a really beautiful, grounded interpretation of selkie lore, set in the PNW, looking at what you give up and what you keep for love
One of the more hinged ways to deal with cast drama, honestly.
in insane local news, the 26 year old director of a rocky horror production was arrested for sending threatening messages to himself in order to get the play shut down bc he didn’t want to deal with cast drama www.mynbc5.com/article/rock...
A few weeks ago I realized that tomorrow is the date the Ray Bradbury story “There Will Come Soft Rains” takes place. It’s a shame science fiction from 75 years ago isn’t relevant anymore
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Showing my boyfriend Deep Space Nine and we just got to the episode where Lwaxana Troi hits on Odo and I was reminded of this again.
I love that every Star Trek show has one character who gets to go “it’s a good thing that I have no human feelings because, if I did, then they’d be REALLY hurt right now.”
No professional accomplishment has ever made me happier than this. theonion.com/translator-o...

I think people absolutely still have good faith concerns about trans issues, but those arent the people asking about it online. You do still have to be ready to patiently talk to people in real life who are thinking about it for the first time when they hear ambient propaganda.
Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.
Made orecchiette pasta with broccoli rabe and vegetarian Italian sausage tonight that was 1) accidentally vegan and 2) pretty good but on its way to being very good.
I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.
swore to god I wasn't gonna comment as someone who has not seen the film in question but THE LRB CUT THE WATER ICE QUOTE? decades of defending the name of water ice to all my non-Philadelphian nearest and dearest and it could have been at the center of the discourse?? & this was denied me??
1. It's a fun action movie. A line that got cut but sums up some of my overall feelings: This Odyssey is not a rich, satisfying Homeric banquet, but sometimes in the heat, an ice-cold Philly water ice is all you want - even it's mostly sugar and food coloring, and makes no nutritional sense.
Technically — TECHNICALLY — this set of films includes Cats (2019).
Studio execs are going to want to adapt more poems for the big screen now
Christopher Nolan giving Emily Wilson a call today:
It’s fun as hell that two experts in their fields (film and Ancient Greek texts) are having a public conversation about The Odyssey. Nolan made a big adventure movie and Wilson is going “hmmm, I’m not sure about THAT depiction but I liked the fight scene.” That rules.
I ate a really good Vietnamese coffee creme brûlée the other day. The world has so much to offer.
I saw this years ago and it’s so immediately engaging.

I know this is my second post this week about The Hours audiobook, but sometimes my brain already narrates my life like the narrator of The Hours audiobook.
You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
ICE posted an RFI for over 1,000 "surge parking" spaces in 14 cities across the nation. While the posting doesn't state a specific time, it could indicate increased presence in those cities in the near future. sam.gov/workspace/co...

Johnny Depp surprised fans at Comic-Con by showing up unannounced at an unrelated panel in character as Ebenezer Scrooge.
It’s been years since I’ve gone on a real run but I’ve been doing other stuff (weight training/incline walking/regular walking) and today I went for a run and ran two miles pretty easily?? When I was training for a half marathon (from nothing), it took me a while to get to two miles nonstop.
Look, if you have a serious arts podcast talking about the industry, and everyone on the podcast doesn’t understand the details of a major business deal affecting your industry, you have to have someone on who is capable of providing information.
