"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

Tim Curry was The Rocky Horror Show at the Royal Court over 50 years ago and then he was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Anyone who has ever attempted it - the role or the show - has been chasing his tail ever since. RIP

the thing I feel about LLMs (for me, in terms of why I have no interest in using them myself) is that, as someone who has cycled through being very out of shape and very extremely in shape several times in my life, I know what happens when you stop using a muscle

i still just really feel like AI stuff is basically illegal. like I don't think a good faith interpretation of "fair use" entails vacuuming up everyone's intellectual property to build your chat bot. that sounds wrong to me

Art is meant to either worry you by nailing an unexpressed or suppressed anxiety, or reassure you that you’re not alone in worrying, offering strength in numbers, don’t fuss, we’re all in this together. AI can’t do either.

The stuff that LLM AI can simulate is blandly confident mush, like forms and pitches and reports. Output where the human needs to be masked or boiled out in order to inspire confidence within a closed system. That’s not what art does, ever.
