feelings, now more than ever! wrote some stuff in some places

El-Sayed: "They think they want to use my whole name against me. Mike, listen man, If you can't say the name -- it's Abdulrahman -- keep the name out your damn mouth."

the loudest possible plus one to Bo’s rec for this gorgeous, addictive novel that’s basically “what if Mike Leigh’s Topsy Turvy were about Anne Rice’s Theatre des Vampires, and also the Paris Commune”

oh and if you need something to keep you from going completely cold turkey feral post-lestat, @boneysoups.bsky.social's THE RED SACRAMENT is every bit as good as everybody was saying, the most gorgeous writing i've come across in ages + all the bloodsucking you crave

I went with a friend and her six-month-old to one of these for the Bruce Springsteen movie back in the fall and it’s one of the nicest times I’ve ever had in a movie theater, so much so that I still feel warmly affectionate towards that objectively quite bad movie

Not sure whether this article is about these specifically, but most theater chains do baby-friendly morning screenings with lower volume and the lights up, which was great for us when Child was new. She slept through several movies. Would not dream of taking a baby to a regular screening, tho!

I cannot rest from discourse. I will see that film again tomorrow. I will drink life to the lees. Again I will enjoy greatly, will suffer greatly, both with those that love me, and in Pleasantville NY. I am become a meme. Film showing: burnsfilmcenter.org/booking/the-...

I described the ideal casting for Odysseus to Thomas as “somebody you’d take home from a bar even though you know there’s a more-than-halfway-decent chance they’d rob you blind before they left your house” and then we had a lot of fun riffing on past + present actors who have this quality

You need a guy who's spanning that dangerous bridge between incredibly hot and slightly repulsive, like a crush who intermittently gives you the ick — HELLO, BEN AFFLECK

standing ovations are somewhat more the norm in UK theater now (still not as much as here) but they still really weren’t in 2015, but the whole audience instantly lept to our feet at the end of this, maybe bc we were scared of what she’d do to us if we didn’t

One of the most terrifying and electrifying experiences of my entire life was seeing Helen McCrory on stage in MEDEA at The National Theatre. Music by Goldfrappe. 90 minutes. No intermission. @hellafitzgerald.bsky.social and I were sitting a few rows back from the front, dead center. Incredible.

I loathe the take of “well every writer is using AI and afraid to say it”. Like, that’s only true if your sample group is tech reporters and various hacks. Writers that don’t give a shit about writing, they just know they need a newsletter to make money, use AI. That’s a big fucking difference

dear god, hearing the way some people have just completely integrating AI shit into their everyday lives is so sad and embarrassing and alienating. you motherfuckers have me on the verge of believing in the existence of the human soul. awful

*standing up on the plane* okay i'm gonna read "america" by allen ginsberg. don't worry i'm not gonna do the n word part. okay. america i've given you all and now i'm nothing. america two dollars and twentyseven cents january 17, 1956. i can't stand my own mind. america when will we end the hu

I only ever saw Glen Hansard play live once, when The Frames opened for the New Pornographers in Central Park in the summer of 2006. It was an unbearably humid day, and, when the weather finally broke halfway through their set, we all truly believed Hansard had called down the thunderstorm himself
