"It is true that the mobility of capital and the relative lack of mobility of labor is an inherent problem that makes the class war more difficult. It is also true that this is the sort of perpetual objection that is crafted to ensure that nobody anywhere ever does anything about a big problem."

"We are already in emergency territory. These people may be very nice but they have too much money. We need to take a lot of it away from them, soon, or no more democracy. It’s pretty simple." www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/the-war-ag...

This article (and Slade's book) are fan fiction. Trumpism isn't a break from Reaganism, it's the intended result, a gov't by, for, and of corruption, lawlessness, racism, and misogyny. That's why Reaganites with power—Thomas, Alito, Kennedy, McConnell—worked hard to empower and entrench Trumpism.

Other than an aside on the "white nationalism that has emerged out of the dark corners of the internet," (which she she pairs with the "excesses of work") Slade makes no mention of the role of race in the construction of the modern conservative movement. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/o...

we are watching a massive transfer of wealth during an era of massive wealth creation (however much it might be just paper money it’s powerful) — reinscribing gender during this moment is a choice about who will be a citizen for the next three hundred years.

GOP is the pedophile party: Hastert was the longest-serving Speaker of the House in US history, found by the courts to be a “serial child molester” (teenage boys he was coaching) but only ever had to serve 13 months for committing financial fraud to cover up his pedophilia. Hell isn’t hot enough.

This guy just kind of being erased from popular US political history is still wild to me.

My guess is that if the longest-serving Democratic Speaker of the House had been a convicted child molester, Republicans might mention it from time to time. By contrast the Democrats have always been committed to a discreet silence about Dennis Hastert:

I’m disgusted by today’s press coverage, which mostly just regurgitates the DOJ press release. The story should be that a) they indicted the guy who got shot, not the guy who shot him and b) previous attempts by ICE to blame shooting victims have all been lies, so no reason to believe this. Shame.

STOP! Do not treat this cover story from ICE and DOJ with any credence whatsoever. So far, they have lied every time about what led to a shooting. At most, this suggests that the ICE agent who shot Wilber Garcés Pérez did so in anger, and had no body camera. wapo.st/4xP6VyM
