I thought of a funny game mechanic interaction, which motivated me to pull together a rough entry for the GMTK Game Jam. It made the top quartile on Creativity and Enjoyment ratings, not too shabby. I'm mostly glad to break my game jam drought since Speleomorph in 2022! hcs64.itch.io/the-counts-a...

July 24 1998, Super B-Daman Battle Phoenix 64 debuted on the N64 in Japan! The mechanics are similar to a compilation of light gun/party/mini games played third person with characters based on a series of Japanese toy robots that shoot marbles from their torso! READY B FIGHT!
New shirts! We are taking pre-orders for two new Buttercup Festival shirt designs over the next seven days, so please order soon if you're interested. Personally, I think you would look great in either one. topa.to/buttercupfestival
I'd like to remind that I made a 90s Nintendo style website to the unreleased game Sound Fantasy, where I compiled tons of infos, prototype ROM + SimTunes (English and French version) + tons of links including videos of the final version of the game luigiblood.neocities.org/soundfantasy

Rewrite Machine CD-ROM, January 1998 This is an artifact of the Nintendo Power system of convenience store kiosks, for selling Super Famicom (later Game Boy) games on rewritable cartridges. This disc would presumably have loaded kiosks with 104 SFC games in early 1998. Info: redump.info/disc/131221
Really cool to see a new CD+EG disc! I was glad to be able to help out with some debugging, looking forward to testing the production run on my Sega Saturn (currently delayed somewhere in USPS).
Oh wow… a new CD+G. Actually, CD+EG. This must have been a real labour of love. Oh, BTW, apparently PC-FX should also be able to play this (not listed in article). hackaday.com/2026/06/25/n...

New Record Resurrects Long-Dead CD Graphics Format
Audio CDs were the ubiquitous audio format of the 1990s. Lesser known were the extensions to the format that packaged all kinds of interesting additional data into a musical release. Now, a new rec…

My time machine is in the shop, they said it'll be ready in a week but how the heck am I supposed to get then to pick it up?
Game idea: All magic is from understanding the powers of holy relics. Hagiography as manual.
Game idea: Fitting together puzzle pieces, but some are missing. You're able to create your own pieces, to fill in spaces where you think you need things to connect. The trick is you need to make a system of pieces that only fits together where it makes sense.
Game idea: Metroidvania with no fixed traversal powers. Instead you scan obstacles in the world as you encounter them. Then, when you have observed enough that a clear pattern is established, you can request to synthesize a spell that gives you a new ability. #gamedesign
Years ago I ripped all Quest 64's music data and applied modern soundfonts (my goal was to upload a full "orchestral" OST to youtube). I decided to add little jokey animations to each track, but I got carried away, which doomed the project to never be completed. Here's the battle theme.
Game idea: Create programs to solve puzzles, written in a language heavy on English keywords. But: Each solution must take the form of a rhyme. Discover new rhyming schemes! Create new words to suit!
Game idea: Magic lesson warns you to only cast a spell in a wide open area outside, never indoors. The spell has chaotic interactions with nearby objects, usually fatal, as if missing initialization or clobbering memory. Exploit this at carefully chosen locations to effect prodigious workings.

June 16 1998, Chopper Attack debuted on the N64 in the Americas! This game was developed by Seta, who are mostly known for Mahjong/Shogi/Pachinko/Golf games (and Project Sylpheed on XBox 360 which I'm sure is someone's favorite game) and it was their only action game on the Nintendo 64!
Game idea: Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Escort an NPC across levels. They start really naive and will fling themselves into traps. They'll learn to avoid that hazard when resurrected. But accumulated lessons can eventually immobilize them, so protect them early on to preserve some capacity for risk.
