In my personal opinion, this is not about frontline staff. It is about a government that provides too few housing options, forces vulnerable youth through bureaucratic processes, and offers a pittance for basic needs. Read this child’s complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission. #abpoli

Why are we seeing record-hot temps and heatwaves around the world right now? Because most of the world's oceans have been record-hot for months. Plus, the new El Niño is already pushing more heat out of the Pacific.

If you think something is wrong with your health, you should be able to see a doctor and get the tests you need through our "public healthcare system." The AB #UCP shouldn't be creating barriers or shifting basic medical care toward private pay .. with the premise that you COULD be paid back.

Smith’s illegal push toward private, for-profit health care threatens universal medicare and appeasing her doesn’t prevent the separatist threat. As I told the Toronto Star: protecting public health care is key to showing Canada works for Albertans. www.thestar.com www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Private billing law for doctors threatens universal health care, critics charge

Alberta's Health Statutes Amendment Act could create a "dual-practice" framework allowing physicians to provide publicly insured care and privately paid services.

Co-founders Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalicum were buying, rigorously testing and selling meth, cocaine and heroin for a compassion club. They said if people knew what they were taking they were less likely to overdose. The approach was working, but then they were arrested and convicted of trafficking.

The @dulfbc.bsky.social is in court, arguing Canada’s laws violate the human rights of users who are dying from toxic drugs. If successful, their case could open a pathway for safe supply. But if they lose, two activists face life imprisonment, reports Stephanie Harrington.

Did you know? #YEG Commonwealth Stadium is still its official name, but the playing surface is now Play Alberta Field, promoting Alberta’s government-run gambling site. Critics say it normalizes gambling for families and youth at public sporting events.

We can't keep scapegoating. The reality is: our health care issues are the direct result of policy priorities! During this time period, Alberta's government has funnelled record public dollars into private profits while evidence is ignored and patient care neglected.

AB: Here is the EIP data (for ALL major EDs in the province) Indexed to Population growth. Obviously increased pop plays a role... but workforce, hospital and LTC capacity, complexity, technology, and GOVT POLICY make a massive impact. UCP GOVT POLICY has only made this worse! 1/2

A lot of mental health struggles ease when the bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Financial security doesn't solve everything, but it can relieve enormous stress. Pretending money has no impact on mental health is a privilege not everyone can afford.

This reads more like a government press release than balanced journalism. Where are the independent addiction medicine experts, researchers, and human rights advocates to add a voice?
