In the late 1970s, David Hockney began experimenting with the unconventional paper pulp medium in an attempt to capture the subtle hues of shimmering light on water. David Hockney (b. 1937, Bradford, England) is a British painter and printmaker best known for his California Pool paintings, including A Bigger Splash (1967, acrylic on canvas, 96 × 96 in.), sun-saturated acrylic works that captured West Coast life and made him one of the defining figures of the 1960s Pop Art movement. Over a career spanning more than 6 decades, Hockney has worked across acrylic painting, printmaking, photo collage, opera set design, and iPad drawing. Hockney first gained critical acclaim in 1961 with semi-autobiographical paintings depicting gay relationships, shown at the Whitechapel Gallery, London. He relocated to Los Angeles, CA, in 1964, a move that proved decisive: the light, architecture, and uninhibited queer social life of Southern California became his defining subject. Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), 1972, (sold for $90.3 million at Christie's) acrylic on canvas, 84 × 120 in.), a double portrait set against a turquoise pool, became his most celebrated single work.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Worst thing to happen to book crit was getting mercilessly synced to pub dates. writer gets 97% of the coverage they're ever getting by the end of week 2, & if the book is widely reviewed (positive or not) in prestige places some of your would-be audience burns out on takes & skips the book itself.
