I'm SUPER proud of the game we made this year in 96 hours about the theme "Count Down"! Interestingly, one of the inspirations I had was Luftrausers, by @ramiismail.com. I'm sure my brain thought about it because we met recently at Develop:Brighton 😅 #GMTK2026 #GameJam #IndieGame

It's a yearly tradition: we're taking part in the GMTK Game Jam 😎 But, for the first time, we get to host a team through our indie studio! 🐝 I love doing game jams because it drives me to design for genres and mechanics I rarely find opportunities to explore and learn new skills 🤩

Great reporting, as always. If the goal is to sell subscriptions, you do exactly what Xbox did with Game Pass. Problem is, outside of the enthusiast core, few cared. The mass market didn't want to play lots of different games. It wanted to play Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox.

New: Behind Xbox's big reset was a failed Game Pass strategy. Xbox spent nearly $80b in deals for content that it hoped would grow the subscription service. Instead, Game Pass lost subscribers. Deep dive: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

"The goal is to streamline the business and reinvest in bigger projects, Sharma wrote." They really don't (or refuse to) understand why they are in this position. Gutted for those affected -including a lot of friends. As usual, people who did their job are going to pay for the real responsibles.

Even now there's misinformation floating around, so let me make this clear: Xbox is cutting 3,200 jobs, or 20% of the organization. 1,600 jobs will be eliminated today, and then another 1,600 (including the studio divestments) in the next 12 months. Full story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

A lot of people (accurately) point out that premium video games are cheaper today than they were 30 years ago thanks to inflation, but discussed less often is how much bigger the margins are for game companies now that sales are 80-90% (soon to be 100%) digital. No more retail or packaging costs!

I think given the scale @godotengine.org is now at, this is an incredibly incisive approach to combat generative AI's awful impact on people, code, and communication. Also focusing the ban policy on access & pull requests is a smart way of eliminating huge parts of the problem in a practical way.

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

Baldur's Gate 3 wouldn't have been possible without the decades Larian spent perfecting their formula, building their tools and training their people. A lesson that people at the top of the big studios / corporations should learn...

"That would be insanity" - A lead on Baldur’s Gate 2 says he was approached by Hasbro to make Baldur's Gate 4, but turned the offer down. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/that-wo...

I think they'll do it the old-school way by selling a subsidised PS6. They need to have a lot of players buying third party games (+ DLCs/microtransactions) on it to print money from royalties. I'm not sure this will work as well as it did in the past tough, but we'll see.

It looks like PlayStation 6 is going to cost Sony about $1,000 to make, which likely means it will cost more than that at retail www.eurogamer.net/ps6-bill-of-...

With the shutting down of Concord and EOL for Destiny & the complete gutting of live-service stalwart Bungie, Sony announces a new company strategy focused on -wait sorry let me re-read I must've gotten it wrong... no that's what it says- yeah they're still trying to build a new not-Destiny y'all

In the PlayStation 5 generation, Sony Computer Entertainment's software output hasn't been as impressive as it was in the previous console generation. Due to SIE’s aggressive live service push, the Japanese publisher released several games - such as the ill-fated Concord from Firewalk Studios and Marathon from Bungie - that did not meet players' expectations. Despite this, President Hideaki Nishino confirmed they will continue to pursue live-service games, even as he heavily hints at a PlayStation 6 handheld designed to meet the changing playstyles of gamers worldwide.

"We believe that live service games are content that attracts users on a global level, so we want to continue to revitalize the market through both first-party and third-party content," Hideaki Nishino said in a new interview with Famitsu celebrating the magazine's 40th anniversary. "We are not only focusing on promoting new releases, but also considering what we can do with older titles in the medium to long term. Also, this year we are planning to release our own live service title, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and we hope everyone will enjoy it."

is there a forced gay agenda in your entertainment media or is it just that the gay kids you bullied in school for being gay and artsy inevitably ended up working in the arts with a bunch of other queer people, women, and progressives while you got a job as a deep sea fisherman, terry?

Dear sound effect and music asset creators; Please stop using generative AI for your thumbnails. You're putting a giant label on your work that gives the impression it's low effort slop, even when the actual content might be excellent stuff!
