Truly don't understand why Ottawa is not making a big deal of its 200th birthday. It's the best city with great stuff to do and we should be celebrating. Bytown Bicentennial. It's right there.
Okay, instead of boycotting, they should give the LA Olympics to Tokyo. They probably still have all the venues and it was the Covid Olympics, so no one got to spectate. This is about boycotting the US. Obviously Russia isn't invited. And neither is Israel.
At this point I’m almost wondering if a Conservative minority government would’ve been less harmful, if only because they’d be less effective at implementing the same policies. The pushback would be louder, there’d be checks and balances. But Carney is bulldozing Canada with conservative reforms…

We have to do urgent things!) you know he’s up to some undemocratic, pro-corporate bullshit that Canadians wouldn’t normally accept.

Gord Miller 🇨🇦 🇺🇦@gmillertsn.bsky.social · 2mo agoThe initial reaction from senior sports federation officials in Europe is that reinstating Russia while the occupation of Ukraine is ongoing will likely lead to a mass European boycott of the LA Olympics, and there will be pressure on Canada to join it.
This could be the start of Carney stacking the senate with people who will vote in favour of his pro-corporate reforms. The senate is one of the few places where his legislation is still slightly scrutinized. Given Carney’s other actions, it would make sense he’d want to remove that “barrier.”

As Stephen Maher noted on Twitter, this appears to be a return to that pre-Trudeau era of senate seats being gifts. What does Carney get? Potentially, a byelection he can win.
To be completely honest the only thing that really concerns me is what this means for Erik Karlsson's prophesied return to Ottawa next year because I just had a thought too horrifying to put into words

I will continue saying this: Ottawa Rapid FC are an honest to goodness great time. Plus it’s an Ottawa professional sports team that’s actually good. (First in the league for four weeks now. We enjoyed a 3-1 win today.)
But we can’t address climate change because it’s too costly.

Revisiting this because kids travelling on the train for free this summer changes the math. NEW PROBLEM: Does anyone have a recommendation for an accommodation in Toronto that doesn't cost a million dollars? I really wanted to be central, but I'm willing to listen to all options.

Here in #OttCity I’d guess half our LRT runs thru miles of greenbelt/farmland or is buried along a river, and/or has stations orphaned at highway off-ramps. This was a conscious choice, to hamstring dev because it was cheap. Inept planning, lack of leadership to see value.
