We were looking at houses and I said "this kitchen looks like Angine de Poitrine" and then I got to explain who Angine de Poitrine is to @leahday.bsky.social.
Incredibly brazen for the Prime Minister to boast about the “lasting benefits” of expanding fossil fuel production on a day like today. Record-breaking heatwaves. Toxic smoke engulfing cities and towns. Out of control wildfires forcing entire communities to evacuate. /1
The world wants to do more with Canada. Our MOU with Alberta will unlock those opportunities in energy — and create lasting benefits for Canadians.
Charge gonna announce they'll be playing at LeBreton when it opens in 2069.
Ottawa Charge to make ‘major announcement’ at Canadian Tire Centre today
Truly don't understand why Ottawa is not making a big deal of its 200th birthday. It's the best city with great stuff to do and we should be celebrating. Bytown Bicentennial. It's right there.
Okay, instead of boycotting, they should give the LA Olympics to Tokyo. They probably still have all the venues and it was the Covid Olympics, so no one got to spectate. This is about boycotting the US. Obviously Russia isn't invited. And neither is Israel.
At this point I’m almost wondering if a Conservative minority government would’ve been less harmful, if only because they’d be less effective at implementing the same policies. The pushback would be louder, there’d be checks and balances. But Carney is bulldozing Canada with conservative reforms…
Like that’s definitely what he’s doing, I’d put money on it. Whenever he uses his shock doctrine framing (the world is changing! We have to do urgent things!) you know he’s up to some undemocratic, pro-corporate bullshit that Canadians wouldn’t normally accept.
honestly they should be boycotting it because of the united states
The initial reaction from senior sports federation officials in Europe is that reinstating Russia while the occupation of Ukraine is ongoing will likely lead to a mass European boycott of the LA Olympics, and there will be pressure on Canada to join it.
This could be the start of Carney stacking the senate with people who will vote in favour of his pro-corporate reforms. The senate is one of the few places where his legislation is still slightly scrutinized. Given Carney’s other actions, it would make sense he’d want to remove that “barrier.”
Trudeau tried to move away from Senate appointments as rewards for the prime minister’s own political benefit. As Stephen Maher noted on Twitter, this appears to be a return to that pre-Trudeau era of senate seats being gifts. What does Carney get? Potentially, a byelection he can win.
To be completely honest the only thing that really concerns me is what this means for Erik Karlsson's prophesied return to Ottawa next year because I just had a thought too horrifying to put into words
Erik Karlsson, I will be your new father figure. I'm so proud of you.
does daniel alfredsson hate swedish people? gotta ask the question...
My Alfie thoughts, in order: - Okay, if he wants to be a loser who leaves again, I can't be hurt in the same way twice. - Going to Toronto is pretty twisted though. - I'm not convinced he's an incredible coach, so my hot take is: this is probably fine. - WAIT, WHAT ABOUT ERIK KARLSSON COMING HOME???
I will continue saying this: Ottawa Rapid FC are an honest to goodness great time. Plus it’s an Ottawa professional sports team that’s actually good. (First in the league for four weeks now. We enjoyed a 3-1 win today.)
But we can’t address climate change because it’s too costly.
The new pipeline is expected to cost between $35-44 billion of mostly public money, according to Alberta's filing.
I deleted the original post because it ended up being literal misinformation, but I thought about leaving it up because I want to slander Danielle Serdachny :)
Canada Day extreme weather brought to you by climate change, which Carney announced yesterday we can’t afford to properly fight 🤗
It’s a national holiday, but I’m working — because Prime Minister Mark Carney made what I’d argue will be one of the most consequential announcements of his time in office yesterday. Canada, under Carney, is abandoning major goals in our fight against the climate crisis. Here's what's going on:
I was going to take a social media sabbatical, but then I remembered tomorrow is free agent frenzy and I am hoping to have something to be excited or angry about online.
This is OBSCENE The developer who demovicted dozens of tenants from a heritage building at Bank & Nepean was being pursued for *$65 MILLION IN DEBTS* when the City of Ottawa rezoned the property to let the developer build a luxury condo No condo was ever built and the property is now up for sale
Revisiting this because kids travelling on the train for free this summer changes the math. NEW PROBLEM: Does anyone have a recommendation for an accommodation in Toronto that doesn't cost a million dollars? I really wanted to be central, but I'm willing to listen to all options.
COMPLAINTS DEPT: We're planning a little family trip this summer for two adults and one child. Round-trip VIA Rail tickets from Ottawa to Toronto would set us back about $700!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here in #OttCity I’d guess half our LRT runs thru miles of greenbelt/farmland or is buried along a river, and/or has stations orphaned at highway off-ramps. This was a conscious choice, to hamstring dev because it was cheap. Inept planning, lack of leadership to see value.
highway-adjacent light rail is such a massive policy fail. you lose most walkablity to highway and places where air and noise pollution are awful. it's truck oriented development. climate arson.
