Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces that New York City is issuing cease and desist letters to more than 40 retailers selling illegal e-bikes (generally, vehicles that can go faster than local speed limits allow). The targeted retailers include Amazon and Best Buy.

The *best* mysteries are when the final solutions are surprising but also perfectly satisfying, like in retrospect the clues *were* there but you probably didn’t put them together. Psychological realism is part of them - that the characters’ motivations fit into what you know of them.

The sign of a good mystery novel is when you can basically put together the pieces at the 40% mark but there's just enough you aren't sure enough that you're relying on genre signals. The sign of a bad plot is when it's all on rails from the 30% mark and nothing excites from there.

If there’s a short answer, how do you teach someone how to watch a movie? It strikes me even with that sentence that our language is not up to the present task: “how to watch a film” has always meant interpretation, not “how to look in one consistent direction for about 100 minutes”

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
