For comparison, Suez fees are around 0.3% with Panama even lower at 0,1%. And these offer canal infrastructure etc. Insurance fees, even in active war zones are usually topped at 1.5% because thats is considered prohibitively expensive

this is going to end up banal but what a world it would have been if the people who YOLO'd consumer LLMs with the pitch "this can automate the boring shit you don't want to do" had a definition of "boring shit" that was "set up AWS creds" instead of "art, music, socializing, raising children"

I'm still coming to terms with the fact I will never again have to do a manual rebase ever again. I just said "rebase this and fix the merge conflicts. The tests are gonna fail, fix those too, split the big commit while you're at it" and then I felt like someone informed me we just cured cancer.
We're post-scarcity on glassware (the glass often costs less than the drink in it) and its cool to see exactly why.

people talking about what programming will look like with ai are probably right. they are probably worried about the right things. but i remember matts script archive. i remember left-pad. billions of one-off slop solutions is not necessarily the worst case.

Paul Frazee@pfrazee.com · 5h agoMy impression is that AI coding is on a "pick two of three" triangle: scope, ship speed, and correctness. Small tools are (speed + correctness) fast prototypes are (speed + scope) and big projects are (scope + correctness). Every project that tries to be all three degrades to "fast prototype."

Markets are best at the decentralized satiation of complex particular desires & preferences. And thus wherever a corporation/state couldn't rent seek, central plan, enshittify, etc, shit improved incredibly since 1986. Every single consumer electronic. Clothing is better. Even sex is better.

this isn't very popular to say, but for me personally, it was good that i had unrestricted internet access when i was a minor. i was aware of what i was doing and enjoyed it. i don't look back on it and go "well that was a mistake", i look back on it and wish i could do it for the first time again
