It is possible to have federation that keeps end users in control and doesn't allow 3rd party copying of your data without your consent. That's exactly what @peergos.org protocol does. There are of course tradeoffs but it is the right choice for user agency and democracy.

The imminent new @peergos.org drive mount is getting super cool. I've just got streaming video (including seeking) directly from Peergos to a native player like VLC working on Android.

Hooray! Our first government contract for @peergos.org! EU governments are starting to realise what real digital sovereignty means. It means portable identity, portable data, and end-to-end encryption. Mass surveillance is not compatible with democracy.

I think that is the price of a non copyleft license. Permission was granted.

Just listened to another great episode of @revolution.social -talking with @werd.io - great to see someone else with similar views on venture capital, and interesting to hear things from the media/journalist side of things. Do things that resist the consolidation of power.

Unpopular opinion on bluesky, but I don't see why PDS jurisdiction matters on atproto when ~everything is public, and actively mirrored in multiple jurisdictions. You don't gain meaningful control over anything. I guarantee you there are relays that are logging everything and ignoring deletes.
