To all my trans siblings in the UK. May you find the resilience to defy and the unity to succeed in your defiance. Piss freely, piss righteously, piss honourably.

even if we don't yet know the path to something different, believing a different way is possible is a start towards realizing it
in our post-sangha discussion, we talked about how large companies and The State have a vested interest in making us believe in the "inevitability" of their world view but we know each point of time has infinite possibilities
watched this lovely video last night, as it was recommended by @dustyweb.bsky.social ( on mastodon ) and was delighted to hear someone randomly bring it up at post-sangha coffee - even though it's only been on youtube two days!! perhaps this means tech optimism is spreading...

Hypothesis: The "it's not X, it's Y" pattern that LLMs are so fond of outputting can be traced back to a single, very prevalent phrase in the training data:

Good long thread here about the reality of life in the Land of Freedom for disfavored population groups.
It's not appropriate for cis people to say that trans people are too alarmed, or that certain trans writers are irresponsibly causing trans people to think the sky is falling. I want to take some time in this 🧵 to write personally about how my skies have fallen.
I enjoy my life, I go about my business, but I never forget the security I lost, and how quickly I lost it. I think a lot about grief, and in my quiet moments I mourn for the country I thought I was living in, and for the freedom and safety I had until so recently.
My life has changed from what it was before Trump took office. Being in Massachusetts is protective, but not perfectly. And the biggest mindfuck is that other Americans don't seem to know it. My sky has fallen and they tappa-tap on their keyboards like "Why is Erin Reed making trans people panic?"
Government officials have publicly linked trans rights speech to antifa to terrorism. I run a moderate enough little trans news site but anyone can go viral. If the wrong person feels embarrassed and blames Assigned Media maybe some government goon starts looking for a pretext to arrest me.
Every week I am reminded of the precarity of my care, and that I'm alone - no one is standing up for me. There's been no outcry outside my community.
If he can stop hospitals in Massachusetts from providing care to 18 year olds, he can stop them from providing my care. There's no limiting principle. So I take steps. Often I go a few extra days before a shot. And I carefully combine the leftover half-doses in my vials rather than scrapping them.
