There was a point when I was working 3 jobs in NYC - the weirdest one was “Tech Guy” for an unhinged rich old man who wanted someone to sit next to him + read his emails aloud, then print them. If he got a call, he’d just want me to sit next to him and listen. That was literally all I did for him.
SarahJSloat@sjane.bsky.social · 5d agoHappy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."
I legit assumed the screenshotted post *was* from Bluesky. It feels like every social platform is either this or Incel Nazis and nothing else.

Today is the 1st day of class at the *other* college where I teach + I just looked up the buildings I’m teaching in + the 1st one is the farthest away you can get from the parking garage which means a 15-20 min walk to class on the hottest day we’ve had in NJ in a month I am going to be so sweaty
I feel like I’ve been in the longest, most boring episode of MTV’s Boiling Points the last few years and the comments section on my pod’s insta are about to be the thing that makes me lose out on the cash prize. (Don’t worry, I have therapy tomorrow)
Parasocial relationships with politicians have led us to this utterly dark place, but on the other hand, I cannot help but mutter "slay queen" to myself once in a while.

I wasn't that into the show Furious after the first two eps and I'm not a big Cop Thriller person (add in sexual assault being a big part of the story and I was out), but then last night I decided to give it more of a shot and now I'm obsessed and have one more episode before the finale drops.
It was so fun chatting with all these lovely folks who worked on X-Men 97 But, most importantly…. Thomas Dekker, who I’ve crushed on since he was in Heroes, calls me “a hot professor” during our chat and I will be riding that wave of validation out for the rest of the damn year

On the 1st day of class, I always do ‘2 truths and a lie’ as an ice breaker with my students. For my 1st class, I mentioned working at BuzzFeed and that was a student’s first guess as the lie and another student immediately went, “nah that’s not a lie he LOOKS like he worked at BuzzFeed” which lol
Usually when folks die, even mostly loved ones, there’s folks being like “well, actually” and pointing out some bad shit the person did I love that with Dolly it’s folks pointing out even NICER shit she did in private

My son was part of the program - this is a copy of the letter that came with his last book, right after his 5th birthday.
