Great article from The Cut people admitting their struggling is a taboo on social media. We are all conditioned in the US to internalize our livelihood are our fault. Never mind the fact our lives are the result of oppressive systems across race, class, etc that moves like a well oiled machine
On social media, a broad consensus is that you can’t admit to struggle — at least not while you’re struggling. Doing so represents a failure so profound it’s almost existential. How did it become mandatory to demonstrate perpetual growth and progress online?
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
Please use this link twitch.uservoice.com/forums/92338... and tell twitch how fucking insane this is. Comment and let twitch know that this is horrible. Thank you

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.
A lot of people have used the argument that AI is here to stay so I should accept it as a tool in my life. If you accept destruction in the world because it is already here don’t be surprised when you face the consequences of that destruction.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Here it is. The profanation of humanity in the name of algorithmic efficiency.

I come back to this tumblr post again and again
Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
I've been working hard on my new comic #PΩMA since the start of the year - will be posting some sneak peaks over the coming weeks
It's not enough to be against AI, you need to be pro art. You need to be a champion of the art you love, you need to share that passion and joy, and do what you can to support the artists who make it, because it's not enough to hate AI, to hate what it's doing to art and media; you gotta love.
It's 2AM anyway I think everyone should look at my OCs being cute again :]
Secret Meeting || a scene close to the end of my story :] After Lumiere (braid guy) catches Xielir sneaking out at night, they finally have a heart to heart underneath the stars and confess their feelings at last #art #comic #ocsky #bskyart
The story though about the electorate that I think we should be telling is DESPITE years of lying & propaganda, MOST people want ICE abolished. Despite AIPAC MOST people have negative views of Israel. Organizing & activism works & it’s not true that most people are okay with cruelty & unmoveable
Well that's just sinister nonsense I wouldn't expect to be in a bill about stocks. Would amend the Help America Vote Act to require photo ID to vote in person. To vote by mail you need to include a photo copy of your ID, the lasy 4 digits of your SS# & an affidavit from the state, or notarization.

Feel like this is the loudest I've ever reflexively yelled 'wait, what?' in my life. Time to do some bill reading, but will say, Cohn is great at this and I am more curious what it says than doubting his reading of the bill.
House Republicans and 13 House Democrats today voted to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act, which (1) Does not ban insider trading among members of Congress or the President (2) Imposes a stringent photo ID law and basically eviscerates mail voting
Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.
The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.
