The President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, PPFP, has been a jewel in the crown for faculty development and recruitment at the University of California for years and the results have been an expanded faculty with almost 100% tenure rates — unprecedented success.

This is not surprising, but so appalling. About 180 FEMA staff members knew they would be risking their jobs to communicate the degradation of emergency response under Trump tells you how bad things are. We can't say we were not warned, but the people who warned us are being punished for doing so.

One of the fundamental themes of authoritarianism is that people doing the right thing will be labeled as doing the wrong thing. And often, that label is applied by bystanders who are still failing to recognize that the institutions they once trusted are no longer trustworthy.

Khalil is challenging the other charge of removability (claimed misrepresentation) as First Amendment retaliation, but those claims are ongoing. Until then, the government does still have statutory authority to keep him detained. He does have a right to a bond hearing, though.

My latest in @theguardian.com. It is not the nations on the travel ban that are a threat to US security. It is the US that robbed them of their wealth, destroyed their institutions & environment, & then denied them participation in safety built at their expense. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
