From the early days of #Tolkien illustration the innovative, colourful images of Hugo awarding winning fantasy/sci fi elder Tim Kirk shine out like Gondorian beacons. Here's one of my favourites, Frodo, Sam and Gimli peering into the starry depths of Mirrormere (c.1974).

@goblinspod.bsky.social Oh my goodness I was not disappointed. @jonnysims.bsky.social is the most awful I adore everything about this episode. Also the best use of the word that you're not allowed to use. Thank you.

Hey up, Sydney folks, if you're looking for pet and house sitting don't go anywhere near TrustedHousesitters, they have no bloody idea and they'll charge you for the privilege.
Walked into a goddamn tree this afternoon while walking the dog. Granted I was following her and not looking up because I needed to know where she was doing her poo, but I felt like a fucking idiot nonetheless. Also it hurt.
Winter is fucking insidious here. It's not bad! It's still SUNNY you can still GO OUT but it still fucking hits me and I want to do NOTHING and I want to go NOWHERE. When I force myself to walk up the hill it's good but it's not AS good because MY BONES ARE NOT WARM.
@goblinspod.bsky.social last episode how much would it cost for you to never ever do that to Hooper again.
It started waaay too early with Douglas Adams, then Terry Pratchett, but Sam Neil so recently and Bill Oddie today is making me contemplate time and aging and how the cultural benchmarks of my childhood are going one by one. They'll be missed.
Bill Oddie was the first funny person on the television I wanted to be when I grew up. When I was 5 I was besotted with The Goodies. I assumed they would still be together in twenty years or whatever and I would simply join them one day and Bill was my favourite. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The only thing I am at all jealous of w/r/t Poly people is their energy.
Sometimes I think about the sheer number of books on my TBR pile and forget that it's actually okay to re-read books, it really is. Been re-reading a bit lately and it's worth it.
Will also say: this is a massive MASSIVE block to disabled folks in the business and I think more people should be working on ways to overcome it. AMAs etc are a good start but making every con super accessible is top of the list.
The best thing I ever did professionally was get over my fear of talking to creators that I admired. Literally led me to getting jobs/support/education that I would NEVER have gotten if I'd not said to someone "Hey, I really love your work!" at a con or a meet up.

The Australians who were deemed worthy of the test alarm right now
the idea that we need electricity 24-7 is also just... not actually true. There are heating and cooling systems that can take advantage of electricity as it is available. We don't have to cook at every hour of the day. But we'd have to CHANGE THINGS and that's anathema to a lot of people.
I've not bothered to watch fanfest before but the timing was lovely for me this evening and am just... delighted. Don't like the new tank, will reserve until I get to play it. Yoshida: "you can customise your characters however you want even though lore says you are wrong" was hilarious. King.
Got nostalgic about marvel movies so watching Winter Soldier again. Oh my god it’s still so good.
I made my bed this morning with super cool linen sheets and it's 7:30pm but I'm all... maybe I could go to bed NOW.
I too, am weary of Marvel Movies, but also I got tired of Marvel Comics in 1989, then again in 1999, then again in 2010, then again .... Look, the movies are a more expensive version of a thing that has existed since comics were invented.
The reason why there are so few absolutely brilliant journalists out there right now is because oh my god the second hand embarrassment.
Caught up on @goblinspod.bsky.social and every episode is a delight. Every guest voice actor a banger, ever storyline a... well. A story. Cannot wait for more. GO LISTEN.
Anything that is universally used should be universally controlled. Transport, education, healthcare, communications. The fact that ANY of these things are controlled by private interests is unacceptable.
I do wonder why it's so... satisfying in fiction to see someone learning. But it is. Not just character growth but to see someone learning a craft.
