A Mere Solicitor

They / Them Just a lawyer, cross about injustice and the world burning. Typos, terrible jokes, and pointing out the law. Anon as thoughts my own.

If we actually did have a world beating national press, maybe their commitment to rigorous, forensic journalism would go a little further than 'breathlessly repeating myths their mates said bc of vibes'. That clip of the Private Eye podcast presenters sneering at the marathon thing has stuck with me

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social · 4h ago

One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

As a hon. lawyer for another progressive religious organisation, we have had to grapple with these issues & I am glad my views about what is, and is not, permitted have been broadly endorsed by the Quakers. I also see they ended up doing the same thing as me of having to survey the toilets... 🙄

UK Quakers commit to continued, explicit trans inclusion. "...toilet facilities labelled with a 'female' sign remain available to cisgender women, trans women, and others for whom those facilities best align with their lived experience."

Here's a post of all the things I do for money (which also helps to fund BISH). Training, teaching, resources, supervision. All with transparent pricing, solidarity fees available and also an end of summer sale on the Big BISH Download. www.patreon.com/BISHuk/posts...?

Hi everyone I hope you’re doing well.  I’ve been doing RSE / CSE (I’ve been thinking about going back to calling it SRE tbh) as a freelancer

Undiagnosed neurodivergent people who have internalised ableist narratives and think special pleading for *their* “genuine” kid’s needs will do anything but fuck us all over are a danger to themselves and the rest of us. This (excellent) thread gives the quoted poster too much grace:

Oh hi it's me, a "relatively mild case," which is to say I didn't get diagnosed until college and was forced to develop coping skills due to persistent institutional bullying that nearly killed me But do say more about the risk of throwing some ADHD people under the bus.

Alex Massie conjured up a figure of aroudn 450 trans women convicted rapists over the space of a decade in a piece he did for the Times and got away with it despite that number being larger than the total number of trans women in the British prison system altogether (most of them not for rape).

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social · 2d ago

The major story of the last decade is the resurgence of overt racist hatred and fascism, on a specific platform of removing the civil rights of citizens, and deporting them where possible. The British press has - at best - used this opportunity to hammer the fuck out of everyone it’s always despised

It's open season in the press again and that's fine, I guess. But press freedom remains a vital thing and it needs to be defended.

Someone pointed out that the internet's most rabid terfs were frothing at the mouth re. the pile on of Dr Jason Arday. Good that after all their attempts to obfuscate and do damage control, Nathan just lays it out there

You'd have to be quite dim to look at the recent output of Kathleen Stock et al and think that they're centre-left types with some "valid concerns" about gender identity. There's a consistently harsh and reactionary view of human experience which turns people into "problems"

Philippa East (Author)@philippaeast.bsky.social · last wk.

There seems to be a concerted effort right now to undermine the diagnosis/concept of ADHD and/or autism. It’s probably been going on for awhile, but I’ve really seen it take hold lately, and it’s really concerning. A lot of parallel to the undermining of gender identity and trans healthcare, too.

Harrowing account, and yet not particularly surprising. Before I published my Cass review paper I had to warn my employer that they might be getting negative emails about me, and I know many scientists are facing the same issues.

Sex Matters say they work to “protect everybody’s human rights”, but they’ve been attacking trans people. We think they're breaking charity law, so we've made a complaint to the Charity Commission. Take action 👇 https://goodlaw.social/anrx

After Stock professed extremist ideology twice this past week (e.g. disabled women are faking; autistic people and people with ADHD are 'unsuited' for academia) and being billed as an expert during the Arday plagiarism scandal, I forgot until now that Stock was involved in her own plagiarism scandal

Look, if Professor Arday didn't want the Private Eye to join in with his ultimately fatal hounding, he should simply have sexually assaulted multiple female colleagues over several years and also written for them a bit, possibly about how LGBT+ people are naughty x

Jason Arday didn’t deserve this. The lie that this is about truth or academic standards is bullshit. The Cass report is based on the transphobic “research” which has since been found to be unethical and based in academic misconduct. That has barely been reported. It’s racism. He was targeted.

Perhaps we ought to take a moment to reflect on how many white male cishet privately educated non disabled men have been given jobs and promoted without question based on fabricated CVs, unfounded self-confidence and an embellished life story & whether we’ve even heard of them.
