Did Trump & his henchmen really imagine the more they attacked America and what it means to be a democracy—values & principles like equality & diversity, freedom of speech & self-governance—that most Americans would simply fall in line? They were sorely wrong. www.americaamerica.news/p/our-fate-i...

Our Fate Is Not Up to Trump

Revisiting nine facts that show what Trump can’t take from us. We are still Americans. We are still human. And we must not allow his deranged, dictatorial regime to decide our collective fate.

Text of a cable sent to the State Department in 1933 by a U.S. diplomat posted in Germany: "With few exceptions, the men who are running this Government are of a mentality that you and I cannot understand. Some of them are psychopathic cases and would ordinarily be receiving treatment somewhere."

If you want 1.5C, 1.8C, 2C, overshoot, no-overshoot, etc, then they all require the same thing: rapid short-term emission reductions reaching net zero CO2 emissions as soon as possible. This has been clear from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, which depicts "overshoot" on its cover! 1/

Timely to share this Wendell Barry quote ... "We don't have a right to ask whether we're going to succeed or not — the only question we're entitled to ask is what the right thing to do is, and what the earth requires of us if we want to keep living on it."

Unlike the US, China fully acknowledges the climate crisis. “”The flood was “caused by glacier instability under the long-term effects of global warming”, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported, saying it was a “new and prominent feature of cryosphere ‌disasters” on the Tibetan plateau.””

Severe weather all over the globe. Fires all over the globe. Don't worry, though, climate change is just a libtard illusion, right? So let's do even more corporate development, data centers, use more fossil fuels. It's fine, really!

Even if we are able to capture all CO₂ emitted at point sources with CCS and scale atmospheric CO₂ removal (CDR) to billions of tonnes per year (we can't and never will), continuing to burn fossil fuels means that millions of people will continue to die from air pollution each year.

Sorry for shouting but... THE ENTIRE POINT OF CCS IS TO ENABLE MORE FOSSIL FUEL USE. That it captures jack shit doesn't matter. All fossil fuel interests need to do is claim that the emissions their extraction produces will be removed from the atmosphere. At some point. Somehow.
