Balcony solar gets legal in Colorado… next year? Have to double check that because I’d be very interested in trying it out
Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.
Love the concept, and anything Premee writes has been good. I preordered!
As always I would be thrilled for people to pick up WICKHILLS, a weird city fantaspionage (??) about a government agent assigned to look after a defector who... wait WHAT did he steal?? us.macmillan.com/books/978125...
Free college, free healthcare, free energy. All possible. All doable. All need to be on the table next election.
And I’m gonna bet there’s a labor benefit, too. People work better and more safely and more efficiently when they have regular shade, too.
Crops grown underneath solar panels produce more, require less water and are more resistant to extreme weather, even during a hot, dry summer. We need agrivoltaics to be rolled out asap, for both the electricity and the better growing conditions. microgridmedia.com/solar-panels...
I’d take that over continued subsidization of the ultra rich and their corporations
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
A new clue from a particle collider in Siberia has sparked a flurry of activity as physicists race to determine whether its data may suggest the presence of a new particle. https://www.quantamagazine.org/physicists-solve-a-muon-mystery-now-old-results-dont-add-up-20260729/
Physicists Solve a Muon Mystery. Now, Old Results Don’t Add Up. | Quanta Magazine
New calculations seem to have put a 25-year-old particle physics puzzle to rest. But they’ve also created a clash with other experimental results.

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.
People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.
My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.
Still on sale! :D Buy my book so I can replace my craptop!!
Ooh ooh! Happy August -- turns out THE BUTCHER OF THE FOREST is discounted at ebook retailers this month! :D $1.99 CAD at Kobo! The Tyrant's children have gone missing... and Veris Thorn is the only one who's gone into the magical forest and returned. So who better for a coerced rescue mission?
🚨 After 40 years of research, Brazilian scientist Dr. Mariangela Hungria wins the World Food Prize for pioneering a $2 nitrogen-fixing bacteria treatment that replaces costly fertilizers, saves farmers $25 billion annually, and cuts 230 million tons of CO₂ emissions.
Endometriosis takes nine years to diagnose. That’s about to change. NICE has approved two tests: a saliva test reading microRNA markers, and a gut-sensor test returning results in 45 minutes, sparing women the keyhole surgery currently needed. buff.ly/QX3jHk8 #ShareGoodNewsToo
Rapid endometriosis tests to be made available on NHS in England and Wales
Saliva and gut sensor-based tests hailed as ‘gamechanger’ for millions of women who can wait years for diagnosis

it all just sort of makes sense, now, huh. all this shit was just generated by AI and he believed it all enough to parrot it on his podcast, and his fact checking team had to clean up after him this is a really massive blow to popular science. Everything is in question now. does he realize this?

There are only three possible futures: a) everyone in the Trump admin goes to jail, rule of law partially restored; b) Dems retaliate in full, and maybe that's a deterrent; c) neither (a) nor (b), so lawless authoritarianism wins again, and when Republicans regain power they ramp it up even more.
“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
My only contribution to the Odyssey discourse is that Wishbone did it first, did it in 30 minutes, and furthermore he’s a dog. Mad inspirational. 10/10. Kids love it. Suck on that, Nolan.
