New York's 2025 Climate Report: 🌡 Downstate, the Capital Region, and W.NY saw a warmer 2025, while the eastern Catskills and ADKS saw a near-average 2025. Statewide, 2025 was 0.81°F above the 1980-2010 average, continuing a nearly 3°F warming from the early 1900s.

New York Climate Report for December 2025: 🌡The entire state saw a below-average December, driven by a handful of cold air outbreaks. 🌧The Lower Hudson River Valley, NYC, and LI saw a drier than average Dec, while W.NY and the ADKS saw a wetter Dec. Statewide, precipitation was near average.

Other folks are doing a better job describing the community contributions of NCAR. But personally, the tutorials, resources, models, and collaborations that I had through NCAR were vital to my learning & doing atmospheric science and getting a PhD.

Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

Excited for this paper to be out! With the collaboration of met services from Central America, we evaluate in detail the biases in gridded products that arise from the underlying station data, and the effect this has on the apparent emergence of regional drying trends. Rainfall data can be hard to come by in the tropics. @anaigmendez.bsky.social leads a new paper taking a deep dive into the quality and potential biases in gridded precipitation data in Central America. CHIRPS comes out ahead, but be wary of trends! agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

November in NY was average to slightly cooler than average (albeit warmer than the avg Nov pre 1980) and drier than average outside of the lake impacted regions in Central NY and the ADKs.

1,019 glaciers have disappeared since 1973 in Switzerland! ✝️ 1st nationwide assessment of vanished glaciers: >40% of the glaciers inventoried in 1973 ~13% (47±3 km²) of total glacier area loss! 🧊🔥 But, as it is based on the latest inventory (from 2016), the actual figures are far much higher! 📈 😰

Video shows lava shot over 1,000 feet into the air from Hawaii's Kilauea volcano on Sunday. The impressive eruption was accompanied by a "volnado," or a tornado-like swirl of dust and ash caused by the contrast between the heated air near the lava and the cooler ambient air.
