The urge is like an itch she can’t scratch, prickling until she can’t think of anything other than fixing the issue.

So, when she gets home from a night lecture to the apartment she shares with Kaydel, she does what she always does when she has nowhere else to be: she scratches that damn itch.

Relief washes over her the instant her bra falls away and she pulls it unceremoniously from beneath her sweater.

“Ugh,” she groans.

Seriously. That thing has been digging into her ribs all day. Yes, it makes her boobs look incredible, but it’s basically a torture device.

She walks down the short hallway into the tiny living room, carrying the padded monstrosity at her side. She doesn’t even think about it—until someone clears their throat. That’s when she freezes and stares in utter horror at Ben, Kaydel’s adopted brother. Ben, who Rey’s had a crush on since the age of thirteen.

He’s alone in the living room nursing a bottle of beer…and staring directly at her and the unmentionable in her hand.

“Ben,” Rey says. Her voice is a little too sharp.

He blinks. “Uh, hi. Um, Kay’s just…in the bathroom.”

“Okay. Cool.”

It’s at this moment she should run like hell for her room, but she just continues to stand there, half-melted to the floor, burning alive in the flames of her own mortification.

He clears his throat again and then—fucking hell—he gestures at her bra with his beer bottle. “Long day?”

She nods stiffly. Her face is far too hot for it to be healthy.

“Yep. No end in sight, either.”

Ben doesn't look away from his screen. "I know."
Hooking his arms over the cubicle's half wall, Poe huffs, muttering something in Spanish under his breath.
"I was wrong," the shorter man enunciates slowly, "about Rey."
Just her name gets his heart rate up. "What about her?" he asks, glancing at his most irritating friend (and only, but that's beside the point) from the corner of his eye.
"She's not dating Beaumont. Rosie said they didn't go to the farmer's market together, it was just a coincidence they bumped into each other."
"Not sure why you're telling me this," Ben resumes typing. Not words, just random letters, but it's enough to give the appearance of actual work.
Poe shrugs, grin knowing, "Just thought that bit of info might be of interest to you."
"Well it's not. What Nima does is none my concern, so if you don't mind, I have a lot of emails to answer."
"Of course, of course, you don't sigh like a lovesick schoolboy every time she walks in the room," before Ben can object, Poe abruptly switches topics. "Wanna try that new falafel place for lunch?"
Best to let it go. "Yeah, man, sounds good."
He waits until the sound of Poe's footsteps has faded before collapsing back in chair, exhaling a deep sigh.
Oh thank God.

Before falling asleep in the quiet dark space made by the long draping tablecloths shrouding the ground under the head table, belly full of delicious food and icing-laden cake, head pillowed by his father's discarded tuxedo jacket, Ben, watching with a smile as the happy couple had taken the dance floor for their first dance, the strains of Richard Marx crooning 'Right Here Waiting for You," had had a brief, hazy thought that weddings were so much fun, he couldn't wait to have one of his own.

Not sure when I’ll have something ready for pairing, but I finally opened Late to the Party again!

Rey carefully slipped from the opposite side of Ben's bed, pulling her shirt down over her hips even though what she really wanted to do was strip it off. They should be skin to skin, a little voice in the back of her head insisted. It would help. She took a slow breath and asked again. "What do you remember, Alpha?"
He flinched then swallowed and looked away, shame rolling off of him.
"..there were noodles?"
"There were." Rey actually relaxed, just a bit. "That's good.”
"How can it possibly be good, Rey? I..I just-"

Kylo is painfully aware of falling in love with her.
He lay bleeding on the ground on Starkiller Base, gazing up at her, flushed and defiant, lit by his lightsabre and he knows the very second that it happens because it is so starkly opposed to the rage he has worn like a second, more comfortable skin since he was a teenager being exiled to Luke's academy.
This new... thing that takes up residence in his chest feels more like warm sunlight after a cold night than the molent lava he has grown so accustomed to. It is disorienting, to say the least.
He was not prepared for the way it makes him worry all of the time. Is she safe? Is she cold? Or too hot? Does she have
enough to eat? Exactly how close are she and that filthy traitor?
The thoughts of her never end, eating at him every moment of every day and eroding his sanity. She even follows him into his dreams.

But by far the most frustrating aspect is the girl herself. She
made it clear she didn't feel the same way with how easily
she spurned him, and how quickly she abandoned him in that snowy forest, choosing the Resistance scum instead.
Despite that, all he had wanted was to crawl after her.
Pathetic.
Rage is useful, it serves as armour- a barrier between him
and the rest of the galaxy. His love for Rey, on the other
hand, does nothing but leave his soft underbelly exposed.
He much prefers the latter, he decides.
Also, if he doesn't see her again soon, he is going to die.
