A thread of books I have read this summer. First, Alone in the Wilderness by Dick Proenneke. The fascinating story of an extremely skilled carpenter living frontier style in Alaska while building his own cabin from scratch. Proenneke's writing is lively and enjoyable. 5 stars, highly recommended.

Ichneumonid wasps A few wasps I've seen in recent years. These parasitoid insects are incredibly diverse, yet poorly known with possibly as little as a quarter of living species even named. They're famous for making Charles Darwin doubt the existence of God simply by existing in nature.
The mint chocolate chip flavor of flies [I imagine] 😋 #Stratiomyidae: #Promeranisa #FlySchool2026 Costa Rica
Ok, I recently travelled to the far off city of Winchester in quest of books (my youngest little child is questing books on Greek philosophy)... and found a bunch. We start with Klaus Günther and Kurt Deckert's 1956 Creatures of the Deep Sea, first published in German in 1950. It is SUCH a treat...
Finished the Great Hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran) illustration I started during Shark Week! 🤘🦈💙 If I HAD to choose a favorite species, this would be it. Photo reference by the great Eli Martinez at SDM Diving. 🤙🦈 #shark #greathammerhead #nature #animalart #illustration #animal #fish #fishart #art

'Look at that beautiful face,' said I to @dinodadreviews.bsky.social. 'Is it not exactly like a little Hypsilophodon?' Red-breasted goose (_Branta ruficollis_), St. James' Park, London.
Our Nanotyrannus (Wayne) is based on specimen NCSM 40000 (AKA Bloody Mary, AKA Manteo, AKA Warhammer, AKA one half of the Dueling Dinosaurs). It represents an adult N. lancensis.

Here's a few renders a #kosmoceratops I finished up recently. However, I'm actually quite unhappy with how I went about some of the texture work as well as with the final result of the renders. I've been working on some new and improved renders recently so stay tuned for those #blender3D #paleoart
The small, basal coelurosaur #Compsognathus longipes and the lizard Schoenesmahl dyspepsia. The holotype of Compsognathus was found with Schoenesmahl in its ribcage, eaten shortly before the dinosaur's death. Schoenesmahl dyspepsia means something like: 'beautiful meal that is difficult to digest'.

There are so many tiny baby frogs in these photos, see how many you can spot. Encourage the persistence of wild and untidy places, build ponds, stop the building of featureless paving!
