In my mid-twenties I worked at a discount electronics warehouse, selling TVs. I was surrounded by screens of various sizes, all playing the same movie on a loop (to this day, I still know the words to every song in The Lorax). 🧵

I've never understood how people just don't seem to get it, it's *never* been about protecting women in bathrooms (or sports, or wherever) it's about 'othering' people and stripping their (and then your) rights.

A series of giant dominos, labelled Trans rights, then gay rights, freedom of expression, women's rights, free love, free speech, democracy, freedom of religion, modernity, literacy. Groups of people are stood at the bases of each 'domino', propping them up. The trans one is leaning precariously and people at the other dominos further down the line are pointing it out and calling for support. Underneath it all are the words UNITED WE STAND. DIVIDED WE FALL. You may not be trans, you may not be gay, you might not be a woman. You may be *lucky* enough to be a straight white healthy man but eventually they'll get to your domino, whatever that may be.

Choppy Water is up for preorder! But the clock is ticking. Once the book is published, you can't preorder it anymore. You'll have to just buy it, like a chump. "Did you preorder Jack Heath's new action-packed thriller, like a true fan?" your friend will ask you. "I ordered it," you'll mumble.

When I was a young man, I once went to the casino, because I thought that's what young men did. I'd read an article in New Scientist about gambling, and I wanted to try a popular roulette strategy it had mentioned: bet on black, and if you lose, double the bet. If you lose again, double it again.

By far the biggest problem with delegating judgement to machines is the people who own the machines can tune them towards outcomes they prefer but those who don't own anything can't. It's not the technology. It's a transfer of decision making power from rational accountable systems to capital.
