If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.

this is the reason these questions are asked. it doesn't matter how well el-sayed answers, the media get to write a headline with his name and the muslim brotherhood in it. heated, islamist, implications, criticize, disavow, dual loyalty, scary man bad

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed disavowed the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist political movement, during a heated exchange at a town hall. https://cnn.it/4s7r1TL

My hometown has made national headlines 3 times in the last 20 years. 1. When it led the country in COVID deaths for a bit 2. Because it might be the first US city to run out of water due to refineries, data centers & corruption 3. This bullshit Congrats, Corpus Christi, on being a shit hole.

NEW: ICE is trying to deport a mother of 4 while her husband is at Fort Benning in Army basic training. When she went to pick up the family's military IDs, Navy personnel turned her over to ICE. She's been in the US since age six. With @nancyayoussef.bsky.social www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…

Hannah Arednt called citizenship "the right to have rights." So long as we have nations it is one of the single most important parts of anyone's identity, and I am a little disturbed at how quick some people are to call for Elon Musk and Melania Trump to be denatz'd. Let's just not please

And when I say Nazi shit *I mean Nazi shit* folks. The Holocaust would not have been possible without the Nuremberg Laws first stripping German Jews of their citizenship and reducing them to "subjects of the state" encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/a...

This thread got into some fascinating arcana that I had never had to think through before, but here's a much more important message: Casually threatening to a political enemy's citizenship IS NOT NORMAL and should be rightfully condemned as the vile Nazi shit that it is. Say it loud.

Can everyone please stop talking about this like it is a thing that can or will actually happen? Canceling a natz certificate is not denaturalization, and--and I can't emphasize this enough--there are *absolutely no grounds for denaturalization or deportation here even if it's all true*

From the Nyt: and now the Trump administration is attempting to strip Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia, of her citizenship so as to deport her. This is more than just another persecution of one of Trump’s political enemies. Rather, his government is tacitly declaring the citizenship of all foreign-born people provisional, their Americanness something that can be revoked. It’s a frontal attack on the idea of constitutional equality. As Hannah Arendt wrote — a quote that the writer John Ganz reminded me of — “One is almost tempted to measure the degree of totalitarian infection by the extent to which the concerned governments use their sovereign right of denationalization.”

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs. However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!

An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.

So: they did! So now the credit card is out of my hands and that’s good. And then just now someone from FedEx called AGAIN and after some corporate preamble said, in a snarky tone, “So can you tell us WHY you think this credit card was delivered to you?” WTF FedEx? YOU made a mistake that’s why!

So after five different phone calls, I managed to make FedEx understand that they had committed an error. Their first suggestion was indeed that I should return it to a FedEx office, and I was like: no I don’t have time for that. You delivered it to me, now it’s on YOU to come and get it from me.

Weird: so FedEx delivered me some somebody else’s credit card today and luckily for them, I’m an honest and also intelligent person, so I’m trying to get FedEx’s AI phone system to understand they made a MISTAKE. But wow they just don’t want to know. There is literally no menu for this.

Any menu system that doesn't have a "let me speak to a real person" option should lead to the organization running it to be declared an enemy of humanity
