Yup. It didn’t seem particularly relevant when I started it…. I remember one reader of a draft saying FINALLY!!! when the northerners began to push back.
I read “The Field of Blood” several months ago, and it was illuminating and so, so infuriating how long the slavers got to throw their little man tantrums about honor and get their rapacious way. I had to stop multiple times and seethe about how relevant it was to current events.

I made oysters Rockefeller soup and figs with blue cheese tonight, so here’s a dumb little video about it
This is what the country is becoming--truly upside down, ass-backwards & downright stupid--like that old demented asshole who claims to be the president.
Dinner: farmer’s market tomato and zucchini, with farmer’s market cheese. 😊
We made Oysters Rockefeller on the grill yesterday. Few things make me happier than a grilled oyster.
Seems worthy. On the other hand, these untrained, unscreened thugs are entirely capable of shooting people dead after engaging in even the most ordinary street disputes. So folks, be careful.
Apparently people are sharing this far and wide on social media, which I think is horrible. This could cripple ICE operations. PLEASE do not share this.
I was told housing would become more affordable after deporting lots of undocumented migrants. Weird how that didn’t happen.
The overriding motivation of this administration is fear. Fear of questions, fear of transparency, fear of the American people.
The culture of fear and intimidation instilled at the Department of Defense all stemming from Pete Hegseth’s incompetence and insecurities. A never ending quest to hide the truth from the American people and hunt down anyone who lets the truth leak out.
🧵 #WhaleTales Two whale tales. In case you want some good vibrations. In 2017, marine biologist Nan Hauser was in the Cook Islands working on a documentary about humpback whales. She slid off the boat with her go pro camera on and swam towards some whales they observed.

Yet, Ben Sasse and the @wsj.com seem to think that it is appropriate to double down on sacrificing American boys to the death sentence that is this sport. www.wsj.com/opinion/free...

Honestly? My favorite thing to stream these days is What Will You Do, Ieyasu, on Netflix. It's a 2023 NHK-produced "taiga" drama about the life and times of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the warlord who unified feudal Japan. It's exceptionally good, especially for a Japanese history geek.
Why do I have the feeling that five or six people appointed for life to positions of unchecked power don’t believe democracy is really all that important? Truly the worst court in our history. There isn’t even context to partially explain their rulings. They’re creating a dictatorship from scratch.
Does anyone expect the Fox-News-addled partisan extremists on SCOTUS to block Trump from controlling elections through the USPS? It’s an outrageous attack on democracy unfolding in front of our eyes.

Between Trump’s Iran war and his war on farmers, Republicans are f*cked for midterms. PS — how long do you think it will be before these poor farmers figure out that JD Vance is going to make a fortune off of their farms when they go bankrupt?
How do you like your news program? 1. Start with the worst news, then second worst and so on as the news gradually gets better 2. Good News up front. Then all the bad news. Then finish with good news. Both come with swearing.
We made a Son of Apartheid a Trillionaire, and now he's destroying the flawed liberal, constitutional republic that allowed him the privilege to achieve that existence. If you can't rally people around the need to end that immediately, you probably shouldn't be in the business of leading people.
Again, I am just a man standing in front of the Democratic Party, begging them to make a bigger deal of this deeply unlikeable racist billionaire asshole who is constantly pushing things everyone loathes.
Looking back on it, the aesthetics that so appealed to people were actually one of the bigger red flags
I’ve said it before but Fetterman’s refusal to wear a suit isn’t just a style decision: it reveals how he doesn’t take the job seriously. You have to wear a suit to go on the floor. This is where most legislating happens. Rather, he hangs outside on one of the chairs and checks his phone.
Agreed. A must read. The original Star Trek promised us AI that would tell us, in a robotic, uninflected voice, "DATA INSUFFICIENT" when it didn't have enough information. Instead we got an eager-to-please sycophant with zero judgment that makes up stuff when, well, the data are insufficient.
