New study published in @natecoevo.nature.com ! We assembled the largest global dataset of plant–pollinator networks to ask a simple question: do interactions become more specialised towards the tropics? doi.org/10.1038/s415... Study led by @saileesakhalkar.bsky.social and myself ☺️ 1/8

Rare moth makes a comeback after more than 70 years! For decades, the only site where the Dark Bordered Beauty could be found in England was Strensall Common in Yorkshire. Now a second population has been rediscovered at the National Trust's Wallington estate, providing new hope for the species.
Our new Nature Eco Evo paper documents range shifts in 1,758 butterfly species across 105 countries, primarily due to climate change. 🦋80% expanded 🦋27% contracted 🦋22% shifted elevation 🦋342 showed multiple shift types. doi.org/10.1038/s415... @monashbiol.bsky.social @monashscience.bsky.social
A 2019 paper that is often used as evidence of the flawed 'windscreen phenomenon' has been retracted. I cited this paper a few years ago in explainers about why this particular anecdote cannot be used as evidence of insect decline. See thread below 👇 retractionwatch.com/2026/06/23/a...

Maria Sibylla Merian (1647–1717) was a pioneering naturalist, entomologist & scientific illustrator whose meticulous artwork & observations: 🦋 Revolutionized the study of insects 🐜 Laid early groundwork for #ecology 🐞 Permanently changed how we understand insect life It's #InsectWeek #WomenInSTEM
It was inevitable, wasn't it🙄 Of course the Telegraph would run with something like this👇 So let's remove some of the rose-tinted spectacles and also look at some of that data comparing 1976 with modern heat waves Because the 1976 nostalgia porn is wearing a bit thin at this stage 🧵1/23
A new retraction for an influential evolutionary biologist is raising the question of whether scientific misconduct more than 20 years ago was just a blip in his impressive publication record or further proof, as some claim, that much of his work rests on a shaky foundation.

Wow, this is an important paper. We had some evidence early on from @ukbms.bsky.social sites but rarely had good data in grazing regimes. But @tombrereton.bsky.social always said that extensive cattle was the best for butterflies and this add yet more evidence
