The issue Steinam was raising was little understood back when she fought for women's rights, but insurance companies knew what would happen if ERA passed. Years later in 2010, when the ACA passed, it banned any differences in insurance premiums based on gender (and health status) Thank you ACA

Steinam story: She was Commencement Speaker for WashU's Brown School a few years ago I honored her by wearing "ERA" button She smiled, said thanks. Then said: "you know why ERA failed?" I said "Schlafly's opposition" She said, no, health insurance industry fearing it would require equal premiums.

“Dolly Parton represented the very best of America," said ALA President Maria McCauley. "We want to make sure that Dolly’s vision, that reading is for everyone, becomes a reality. That’s something that we can all carry forward in memory of Dolly.” https://lat.ms/3SWROFd

Roger Summit pioneered online search and Dialog was recognized by IEEE as founder of interactive search. He wasn't a flashy marketer, but was widely respected by customers, competitors & employees (I was one) for his contributions to information science and research.

Two months after Hegseth’s regressive move, Air Force base faces major flu outbreak

Eight weeks after flu vaccines became optional in the armed forces, we’re already seeing the consequences of the Pentagon chief’s shortsighted policy.

Brilliant thread—the NIH Director’s “Scientific Freedom” lecture series is free of actual science! “Director Bhattacharya appears to be afraid of promoting scientific presentations & debates by actual scientists but rather favors fringy journalists who promote ideas favored by his boss”

OK. I am noticing a pattern... Today is the second "NIH Scientific Freedom Lecture" to be given by Gary Taubes on "Energy Balance or Fuel Partitioning? A History Lesson in the Science of Obesity Pathogenesis, and Its Implications." 1/11
